Henry Kissengers view on 9/11

anthony, Saturday, 15 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Henry Kissinger is the worlds biggest serial war criminal, from Indonesia and East Timor to the overthrow of a democratically elected president (Allende) in Chile and his support for he neo-fascists that took over, to Cyprus. He was even involved in the assination of a Chilean democrat on American soil. I could continue. In the same vein here is Saddam Husseins 'Open letter from Saddam Hussein to the American peoples and the western peoples and their governments.'

Has anyone else wondered about how the Taliban's stance toward bin Laden is actually sort of similar to our stance on Kissinger? In both cases, there's a refusal to try or extradite the individual based on the assertion that there is not evidence against him.

Nitsuh, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

True, Nitsuh, but I don't see Osama bin Laden answering softball questions on the Leno show, or partying down at the Hamptons with P. Diddy and Martha Stewart.

Michael Daddino, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What a vision, though.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

People rag on Kissinger too much. Chilean copper magnates need friends too!

dave q, Monday, 17 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Does anyone else want to give their TV away whenever Kissenger appears on it? GRRRRRRR.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Monday, 17 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Daivd gets up turns it off and then goes out for a walk. He hates kissenger that much.

anthony, Monday, 17 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There was an interesting feature on Kissenger in the Village Voice a few weeks ago.

I never knew Kissinger was that bad. I wonder what he woudl say in his defense of al thise accusations.

Pennysong Hanle y, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kissenger was interviewed on BBC's Newsnight last night. He was asked difficult questions e.g. about the extent to which the American people are really ready to have their children drafted and sent off to fight and die in Afghanistan. Although he remained his impassive self, he was clearly annoyed by the questions. Unless I was dreaming, I think he came close to saying lefty journalists would get theirs too when the retaliation begins. It was almost funny.

Jeff, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It woudl certainly be something if the US govt. shipped him off to Chile . But I guess we can only ask other govt.s to extradite criminals, they can't ask us

one year passes...
Bush names Kissinger to head 9/11 probe.

maura (maura), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Kissinger? All I have to say about Kissinger is this: AIDS, depopulation, & NSM-200

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Just think who Bush might have chosen if he had rushed into a decision! (If you can think of any worse choice.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Kissinger gets far too much credit from his detractors and his proponents. Nixon was the real villain, Kissinger was a stooge useful in that he was a mediawhore and a member of the chattering class.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Kissinger can still be tried though.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Disagree, James - everybody in that administration was quite guilty, and Kissinger's "help" crafting foreign policy cost tens of thousands of southeast Asian peasants their lives.

Bush names Kissinger to head probe => I feel embarassed to be from this country

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 28 November 2002 01:03 (twenty-three years ago)

anthony cannot spell mark. you know that.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 28 November 2002 04:12 (twenty-three years ago)

John: I'm not disputing Kissinger's character, I'm just saying that people overrate him when they make him out to be some present day Rasputin. Nixon was the real villain, Kissinger was one of his tools. Even as a backstage Machiavelli he's overrated - as Donald Rumsfeld proved. This is embarassing though - even people who adore Kissinger (Ted Koppel?) have to admit there's no way this guy should be involved in government in any capacity (was Dean Rusk unavailable?). Hitchen's reaction (see Slate) was priceless though.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 28 November 2002 07:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll also say when Hitchens' Harpers articles ran I thought it was a bit naive - there was clearly no way this guy was ever going to go on trial (although it is odd that many of the people screaming for Kissinger or Ariel Sharon to be brought to justice never mention, say, trying Saddam Hussein or Yasir Arafat, Hitchens being an exception in one of these cases clearly). It has clearly made Kissinger's life uncomfortable, knocked him off his media pedestal to an extent, and delegitimised him somewhat, so mission accomplished, or at least as much as you could hope for.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 28 November 2002 08:02 (twenty-three years ago)

havent read this whole thread, but has anyone here mentioned that film on kissinger that came out this year which condemns him and makes a pretty straightfirward case against him ? i think it's supposed to be a doc too. did anyone here see it? hey, has anyone here see "journeys with george" too ?

V, Thursday, 28 November 2002 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

prick needs his bowels pulled out via his nostrils and then shoved back in through his earholes. buy an election, sell a country, have an investigation by the crookest man alive. Ain't freedom grand?

Queen G (Queeng), Thursday, 28 November 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Will it help if I remind you that he's the punchline of a good joke? The one where the joke teller talks about how this guy is found kneeling between Nancy Reagan's legs.....whatisname?....former Secretary of State?....Henry something?....

(joke tellee) Kissinger

(joke teller) Nah! Fucking her!

Did you hear thet Ken Dodd died? Did he? No...Doddy!
