Following on from CJ's Greatest Inventions thread, can you think of any really crap inventions? Things you know of which Just Don't Work....

The Tickle Toaster (TM), naturally.

And I find most corkscrews are rubbish.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 13 June 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Overly elaborate corkscrews are v dud. The Waiter's Friend, on the other hand, is classic.

robster (robster), Friday, 13 June 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't it! And to think that it was only about a month ago that I learned how to use one properly. (Simple principles of physics are not my friends.)

Going back to the question, I've decided sandwich toasters are rubbish unless you have perfectly square bread the fits the moulds exactly. All too often, the irregular shape of sliced bread compromises the structural integrity of the sandwich, leading to horrifying cheese meltdown.

Horrifying = having to clean off burned cheese.

The Teasmade. Has anyone actually DRUNK tea out of one of these things? Urgh.

I also suspect the George Foreman Grill is a bloody useless thing, especially for the poor soul responsible for scooping all the congealed animal fat out of the thing at the end.

I notice a culinary pattern emerging here.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

My mom uses to the Foreman to cook vegetables all the time. And sometimes even boca burgers or veggie chick patties!

surely instant coffee is useless!?

my folks gave my sisters and i this 'Donut Maker' tm. the best result this freakin contraption could produce were things that resembled deformed muffins. we used it once.

also cheap coffee machines

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

instant coffee=instant caffeine. What's the problem?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Bizarrely I described a phenomenon as "not as useful as a chocolate teapot" in a mail to an ILXor today (though I know out-of-band that she hasn't checked her email since).

Teasmades

The teasmade thread. (its a classic of early ILE).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the decaffienated coffee you want to watch out for.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Most everyone at my work swears by the Foreman grill, but then again, they are idiots.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the existence of kitchen roll is offensive.
are people really stupid enough to spend money on this?

joni, Friday, 13 June 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

instant coffee = instant freakin' sludge = a problem
