I like it. The Eddie is a nice boozer and the station's one of my favourites.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 13 June 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't been there in a while now, ricky = otm about th station, it's rather nice.

The shopping centre is mind-blowingly depressing though.

Where's the Eddie?

chris (chris), Friday, 13 June 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It has the eastway cycle circuit north of the railway and loads of warehouse parties.

Ed (dali), Friday, 13 June 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

there are russians in stratford, certainly on silverlink between hackney wick and west ham anyway it seems.

gareth (gareth), Friday, 13 June 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

a friend of mine named nadia lived there for a while. i went there one new years. she was in her room listening to baxendale and rough techno on innumerous pills, shouting at the neighbours "come round! we're having a.. party!" and changing her skirt every three or four minutes.

station is gorgeous, but lost credit for me in not accepting my maxed-out and cancelled credit card like surbiton always did at that point.

the shopping centre is a dark mess, but stays open all night so the homeless have some shelter.

I went off it when a very good bookshop kind of south of the shopping centre closed down nearly two years back.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Stratford's cool. Agree with Matthew about the shopping centre, though, always full of drifting greasy tendrils from KFC. Food and customers. Scary. Station looks like it landed from Mars.

I've only ever been through Stratford en route to North Woolwich on the 69 from Walthamstow Central. And not for many years - I'm not even sure this bus runs any more. When I moved out of London I first started to hear ppl talking abt the other Stratford as just Stratford, rather than s upon Avon...the first time was really odd...there were no Shakespearean references to give me a clue (!) I think the guy said "Stratford attracts more tourists than Bath" or something.

the novelty wears off when you have to pass through it every day, believe me

one year passes...

moved here on Sunday, am about 7 mins walk from the station which is nice. i have to walk through the shopping centre to get to it from my house which is a bit annoying but there's a nice baker's in there - too bad i'm trying to cut down on cake. The town hall is nice, I'll take pics. oh and there's a little African market shop just round the corner from me i might give a whirl. i think my favourite aspect so far is 7 mins to lovely Liverpool St and the trains are so frequent (multiple platforms etc.)

i wouldn't say i love the place so far but it's no better/worse than Harringay

I love Stratford, though it gets a bit too touristy for me in summer. Have you been to Leamington Spa yet? I love Leamington Spa.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

so far but it's no better/worse than Harringay

hmm. What is the Stratford equivalent of Dostlar?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Dostlar is unique.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I was there last weekend! My best friend's just moved into the area.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

but can we eat it?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I lived in Leamngton Spa! Did you, Cathy?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ah but did you shop at the Leamington Spa Spar?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

when I come to London, Stratford is my hood.

what are the good pubs there?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

shouldn't that be "are there any good pubs there?"

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

the King Edward is alright and i've heard good about the Princess Of Wales (my local, tho i have yet to step in) - apparently they do great Thai food AND karaoke...uh oh...
