i can't believe this hasn't been done before. i have a blushing problem. dammit. just when you wanna act cool, you're cheeks start burning up. people even accuse me of blushing when i'm not actually blushing. what i wanna know is - does anyone find it endearing? i need to know that theres some good in this out-of-my-control affliction.

di smith (lucylurex), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I do it too, and I blush over the stupidest stuff. But also, my face gets red easily. I'll go outside for 5 seconds in the heat and my face looks like a tomato. I think it's cute, but also I have to convince myself that's true since I do it all the time.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

At least yr not male.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

As in it can be really endearing on women, kinda rarely so on men.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

god damm, if theres one thing i DON'T need written across my face, its "i have a crush on you". *shakes fist*

di smith (lucylurex), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I went through this weird phase in my junior and senior years of high school where I would blush all the time, even if just mildly embarassed. The rest of my life, I haven't had that problem, I think I only blush if really really embarassed about something. My boss blushes all the time, if he gets flustered or worked up about something. It's funny, we make fun of him.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to blush alot, but it's not that bad anymore. I still do it tho & when I feel myself going red I get even more embarassed which makes it worse! I always feel like a silly little girl when i blush tho. I reckon it's cute def & very endearing.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

very cute when a girls blushes.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

doesn't everyone find it endearing? it's a declaration of vulnerability (in a way that "being cool" isn't, for example)

i can see how "aw that's so sweet" doesn't feel very empowering when yr on the receiving end, esp. if you want them to be thinking THAT IS SO HOTT (but surely these sometimes coincide anyway?)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 13 June 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been told I blush quite gratuitously. But I'm apparently not always aware of it, so I don't know exactly what makes it happen. (I mean, sometimes it's really obvious that you must be blushing... but I've been told I'm blushing at times where I'd have sworn I wasn't.)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't that a way of trying to trick you into blushing?

mark s (mark s), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Di do you have allergies?

so sweet = so hott

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

If it's a trick, it works pretty well. I never considered that. How naive does that make me?

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

SO GLAD to hear it's considered endearing/cute/hott. I have a tendency to blush easily, and I've always found it embarrassing.

And yes...erm...I'd prefer to be subtle. With some crushes, it would be best that the recipient never know. Ah well.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

blushing is more subtle than stammering, i'd say.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

And much more subtle than an erection.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh man, I am the most pathetic boy in the world. Once in awhile, I manage to keep my cool, but more often than not, if somehow I get talking to a crush, I start blushing uncontrollably and I have to fight to keep from giggling & smiling. It's so twee, and I hate it.

Also, if I drink booze, after one or two, my cheeks get a little rosy, but thats because of the "Asian Glow"... I'm not drunk or anything, it just gets that way.

btw xtra cute/hott during the sex act

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaysus The Edge, that's vile. And I'm colourblind as well.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i really dont like how it looks like my last comment is in reference to that godawful picture

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

what was it in reference to then?

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

blushing

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

like the girlfrendo song goes, "i want to crush, ooh it feels so good when i blush."

i definitely have a love/hate relationship with it. i'm delighted to hear that it's a cute thing, but i do hate it because it just screams, "OHMIGOD I *HEART* YOU!* at the same time, the whole blushing/giggling like a nerd thing is what makes crushing so delightful!

fiona (fiona), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it is because you are a drunk. Did you stop to think about that? Did you?

jm (jtm), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Blushing = el groovy. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Rosacea - What is it and can we eat it?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

uber cute.
i was gonna namedrop, but NOpe, not gonna

kephm, Friday, 13 June 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

When a girl blushes at you...ooh yummy...

mei (mei), Friday, 13 June 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It's my only, and best, and wor (ohwhatever), weapon.

Cozen (Cozen), Friday, 13 June 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Ultradud for me, because it's part of some syndrome in which I sweat buckets if I even THINK about exerting myself. Back in the days when I would work out before work, my coworkers would say things like I was looking nice and rosy that morning. They were being too kind -- my face looked redder and wetter than a steamed lobster.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 13 June 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i have this problem, but not just with crushes, but in everyday, random situations. the worst part about blushing is as soon as i realize my face is going red, it keeps getting redder and redder and the whole the whole thing just goes out of control . i have tried to stop mid-blush, with no success so far.

sand.y, Saturday, 14 June 2003 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i do not concur that men blushing is unattractive. my 7th form calculus teacher had the most adorable blush, i remembered him last night when listening to "to sir with love" by lulu. his blushes would surface quite a lot when i wore silver strappy shoes and little pink miniskirts to class (tacky I KNOW). he was the cutest nerdy teacher i ever had.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 19 June 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Mufti schools are sex havens! Actually guys blushing is definitely cute, it's just not regarded as very SEXY, is it. By the bulk of the "world".

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 19 June 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

mufti was 7th form only, and i was the only person who used it to such glorious tacky effect. unfortunately my chemistry teacher thought it was an excuse to harass me, and sabotaged my grades. fuckwit.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(ignorant yank) is 7th form like 7th grade? (/ignorant yank)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha at my school for 7th form we got KHAKI PANTS and a red white or blue POLO SHIRT. Mmm.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

7th form is the last year of high school before you go to university.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

hold on, your school GAVE you mufti to wear?

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, good--cause if your calc teacher was eying you in seventh grade (~12 years old US) he'd be rather a perv

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

No, we had to buy our fake mufti.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 20 June 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I love blushing - on males. On Females. On those in-between. It's endearing and sweet and oddly sexy - a total body thrill for me to observe. (Yeah, I don't go out with people who have naturally ruddy cheeks, as I pretty much would be constantly in heat around them. Which isn't a bad thing, just a bit distracting.)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 20 June 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Dud because I have an incredibly hair-trigger blushing response. Couple that with general flusteredness and it's super-uncomfortable.

Still, things seem to work out OK

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

But should not you be moe concerned about how others view it, Chris? Perhaps you'd not feel so 'cuper-uncomfortable' if you knew others were delighted and all.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 20 June 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, arguably part of the "charm" of blushing is being unaware of it. Heck, I'm usually kinda flustered anyway, so I'm often unaware that I'm blushing to begin with. At least until I can feel the heat radiating off my face.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks to jess for reminding me how much I like the phrase 'the sex act'. It's the euphemism that isn't.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 20 June 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I laughed every time they said "El Sexo" in Sex & Lucia. I know, I'm really mature and cultured and shit.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 20 June 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

And just why is it that you're usually kinda flustered, Chris?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 20 June 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The sex act? That's the one that starts directly after The Mousetrap in Hamlet, right?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 20 June 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

And just why is it that you're usually kinda flustered, Chris?

*blushes*

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Sheesh - anyone ever accuse you of being easy, Chris? *grin*

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 20 June 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe other things, but not easy...

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

*laughing* And I am certain that you're comfortable with being all of those other things. In fact, you'r the best at them, right?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 21 June 2003 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was about 11 or 12 I used to blush a lot, very easily. Then last year I started blushing when I asked questions it big tutes at uni.

These days I blush all the time in social & academic situations - especially ones that involve my L0V3R coz he is now also my teacher! It is quite humiliating and I'm sure it makes me appear lacking in confidence and timid around him (which maybe I am a bit coz it's rare that he doesn't find fault in what I've said or the way I've said it or the reason I've said it) - which is all kind of good coz it makes me shup up for a bit whereas I usually talk way too much and most of what I say is irrelevent shit.

toraneko (toraneko), Saturday, 21 June 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

That would be telling...

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 21 June 2003 06:16 (twenty-two years ago)

blushing is classic

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 29 November 2003 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

I have a crush on one of my lecturers and I went into his office and asked him a question and just went bright red. Great. Pity I found one of his articles on the interweb entitled 'Why abortion is a crime against humanity.'

bingolola, Thursday, 24 July 2008 14:33 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

i fucking hate blushing.
but i don't blush in a cute way, my whole face turns red and my ears get burning hot. lately i have been getting this every single day at the same time and it SUCKS.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:27 (seventeen years ago)

does ian make u blush

cutty, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:32 (seventeen years ago)

I hate blushing. I don't do it a lot and I'm black and mainly surrounded by white folks, most of the time, it rarely gets spotted.
But I know it's happening!

I'm a 387 year old male ffs! There shouldn't be anything left for me to be blushing at!

Anyway blushing on women = way cute. Even when they've got such insanely pale skin; so that when they blush they look as though they're about to explode.

Stone Monkey, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

387? wow! I know I've been around for a bit but that's ridiculous.

For the record "38 year old."

Stone Monkey, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

my blushing doesn't happen when i'm embarrassed - it's weird. it just happens around the same time every day.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:43 (seventeen years ago)

maybe it is rosacea?

cutty, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:44 (seventeen years ago)

my dermatologist doesn't think so, but that's what i thought originally

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

Is it...a while after lunch? My body temp fluctuates a lot during the day, often in regular patterns. After my stomach is filled with food I get colder for a little bit (presumably while blood floods to stomach) and then suddenly very warm as the calories hit my cells. Sometimes involves flushing.

Laurel, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

yeah - it's in the early evening, from 4-7 that it happens, and i eat lunch around 1 usually.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

Blushing is always really cute on women, not sure what the consensus is for men (seemed to be some conflict here). I'm not sure if I actually turn red but I get all bashful too easily. Any time a band I'm in plays a set I have to brace myself afterward because whether the response is good or bad I'm gonna get all 'must hide' no matter what.

RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

I just blushed at a completely inopportune moment last week and I'm still feeling embarrassed about it.

Situation: (Background: I am teacher at a community college) I reserved a computer cart for my class, and when it wheeled down the hall it made this sound, like SQUEEEEEEEEEEAK squeak squeak SQUEEEEEEEEEEAK. It sounded like a group of monkeys were laughing. So I returned the cart to the dudes in the tech center and, as the cart was squeaking when I wheeled it in the door, I told them that the monkeys had stopped laughing at me. Not surprisingly, they didn't get it and thought I was nuts. I explained, recreating the squeaking sound with my own voice to show them how weird it was.

Then the tech dude was like "Why are you blushing? You're blushing. Are you embarrassed?"

Uh, now I am! Then he said that my face matched my skirt (was wearing a red skirt) and I fumbled my way out of there. Worst part? I have to go back.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

blushing is NOT cute on me. it would be cute if it were just my cheeks but it is NOT cute when it is across the bridge of my nose, my ears, etc

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

I bet it's cute

RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)

Uhhh, do guys blush? I guess biologically it'd be the same deal as women.

burt_stanton, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

you're joking, right?

carne asada, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

but yeah i have rosacea (but fairly under control, not ever-present blush or anything) - i have met one dermatologist and one gen practitioner ever who actually understood that rosacea manifests differently in dif people and can be related to food/exercise reactions so basically whatever medical science

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

A couple of weeks ago I accidentally embarrassed someone else and she was wearing a strapless dress and actually blushed all the way down into her shoulders. It was...dare I say....kind of hot?

Laurel, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

Girls always seem to like it when they make me blush.

Michael White, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

i felt totally ashamed when i blushed in front of tech dude, which made me blush more. i think he's a student! (not my student, but a student nonetheless)

La Lechera, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)

If you have dimples when you blush its EXTRA CUTE but rarely hot. I think that it can be hot depending on 'the kind of blush'.

Is rosacea the same as blushing/a more intense blush or is that a skin condition?

VeronaInTheClub, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

skin condition

RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

have met one dermatologist and one gen practitioner ever who actually understood that rosacea manifests differently in dif people and can be related to food/exercise reactions

i thought this was a pretty basic concept?

lauren, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:29 (seventeen years ago)

i mean, the mass-produced leaflet my derm gave me mentioned food/exercise, and so do most of the web sites i've looked at.

lauren, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i know! but hey maybe all the docs i've seen were more concerned with skin cancer than other things, i don't know hey

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)

my tendency to blush often has tapered off as i've gotten older, but due to rosacea i get super beet-red during exercise and stay that way for at least half an hour after finishing.

lauren, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

both my gp and derm ruled out rosacea because i don't have the acne, but i kind of suspect that i might just have an early stage of it, from what i've read about it. do the rosacea medications actually treat the flushing itself, or just the acne?

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:35 (seventeen years ago)

if it is any consolation i suffer from hyperhydrosis
