TS: Sioux Falls vs Sioux City

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 13 June 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Been to both. Council Bluffs gets a lot of bad press from the Omaha mafiosi, but the difference is neglible, really - Omaha has the Old Market, OK, but nothing about Omaha inherently rules over Council Bluffs, which has a casino. (Though I think there's a racetrack in Omaha so it evens out.)

The one afternoon I spent in Cedar Rapids I was getting dental work done, so as far as I'm concerned the whole town rests on a foundation of truly vile sadism & its citizens exist only to mock my pain.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 13 June 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

where do you get this stuff, gareth?

Josh (Josh), Friday, 13 June 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

fun fact: there's (was maybe) a little corner of Council Bluffs on the Omaha side of the river (the river shifted, leaving a sliver of land that technically wasn't Nebraska somehow)

(good god 10th grade geography popping into my head unbidden stop it stop it)

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 13 June 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

and yes I've been 'to' cedar rapids (through it). but not council bluffs. gareth, what possessed you to juxtapose these two in particular?

Josh (Josh), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe he's planning his next US trip.

nickn (nickn), Saturday, 14 June 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Josh (Josh), Saturday, 14 June 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm from Sioux City, Iowa so I've been to both, though i don't remember much about Cedar Rapids....I'll have to go with COuncil Bluffs for its proximity to Omaha.

D Aziz (esquire1983), Monday, 16 June 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

But Cedar Rapids is The City Of Five Smells!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 16 June 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you name all five?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 16 June 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

normally my radar goes crazy when people start hatin' on Iowa but "The City of Five Smells," that there is some funny stuff

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Monday, 16 June 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that was actually an argument in favor of Cedar Rapids; I am so not hatin'. It's also very close to the comparatively hip Iowa City. It might be a nice compare-and-contrast for you, Gareth, if you want to see the difference between a manufacturing-based economy and a college/gov't-based economy in the same geographic region.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 16 June 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

(disclaimer: I haven't been to any of these cities but worked with a guy who previoiusly worked in Cedar Rapids and lived in Iowa City and he told me about all this.)

teeny (teeny), Monday, 16 June 2003 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

'the comparatively hip iowa city' is actually on the sign as you cross the city limits.

Josh (Josh), Monday, 16 June 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i have been to council bluffs as part of an lds church history tour when i was 7 or 8, i remember the intereperive center being dull.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 16 June 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

comparatively dull?
