I want all that stupid old shit like letters and sodas...

The romance thread made me think about how I want some romance, dammit. Squashed candies and kisses from beautiful but inappropriate men are beginning to make me cross. I want to talk about love, I dont care how unfashionable it is.

can everlasting gobstoppers be romantic?

Cryosmurf, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

David would go to the candy store and buy these little strawberry marshmallows in fact on occasion he still does . Its alot more romantic then those 1 pound boxes of valentine Godiva

anthony, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and propose that I'm such a wussy romantic (full of love of that stupid old shit) that I'm scared / disinterested in even trying to date women casually. I'm not gonna throw myself out there, just to play the field and screw around and feel dissatisfied. Fucking meat market.

David Raposa, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

giving people sweets and candies is so much fun, I think an everlasting gobstopper would be perfectly wonderfully romantic, it would be like a sugary sweet poem about everlasting love and having no need to talk. As for me, I'm gonna find someone whose eyelashes I can kiss. And I'm gonna write him songs and sing them to him.

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I didn't even think about the everlasting love aspect, I just like gobstoppers.

Now that I think about it, they're not really all that everlasting. Those outer, colorful layers sure are fun... things keep changing and you don't know what'll come next, but it takes a lot of patience to resist chewing up the center. After that, you have to find another one.

Cryosmurf, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh! :-( Maybe candy is not such a good metaphor. What about spinach pie? True Love could be like a Spinach Pie or something.

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Spinach in SPinach pie gets caught in my teeth.

anthony, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thats not spinach, thats the love. And maybe the way you know its true love is when they're not afraid to tell you, "Honey you have a little bit of spinach/love caught in your teeth."

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gobstoppers are an ok metaphor for dating and whatnot, just not very romantic. They're still delicious.

Peanut butter is sweet and totally nuts.

Cryosmurf, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, dating, I wanna know about that. I dont date cos I think thats just an American thing? Does it save heartache? Is it fun? Are you really allowed to date more than one person?

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, for most there is a difference between dating exclusively vs. just dating. Personally, I am too much of a serial monogamist to pull anything like that off. I don't do well with jealousy at all.

bnw, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I suck at dating. No gobstopper pun intended.

Cryosmurf, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It does seem like it might be exhausting. And nerve wracking.

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But it might be good for meeting a lot of new people, and finding out that they have Weird and Unappealing Habits, and then you quickly stop dating them. Thats what I know from watching American tv shows.

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You gotta find some way to not only meet, but kinda get to know, lots of people, right? Unless you're lucky or just not very picky/choosy... How else but dating?

Cryosmurf, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I suppose I just randomly bump into them. Boyfriends I mean. Which is not to say that I am not choosy because there have only been three, but then again at the moment I dont feel that bumping into any of them was particularly lucky.

Lucky for them maybe.

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I didnt mean for that to sound concieted, I just meant that sometimes they werent very nice and stuff.

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For the most part, the only girls I really get to know that I'm not dating are my friends' girlfriends. All the rest get huffy and don't want to talk to me. What's with that?

Cryosmurf, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"all the rest" are they girls that are acquaintances or strangers and such? I dunno...Are you sure its Huffy-ness?

rainy, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Er, I'll email you.

Cryosmurf, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Affection affects you like a weapon"

DavidM, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Romance sucks. Love sucks. Eveyone and everything sucks.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this fluffy thread for an outpouring of bitterness.

Carry on as you were...

emil.y, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If you ever feel jealous of not being in love with somebody, there's always a handy exercise to take. Sure, it smacks a little of smugness, but it certainly makes the pain go away:

Just walk out into public and count the number of couples you see walking the street that are firmly grasping to each other's arms and hands but somehow don't really look at each other, and don't seem "happy".

Now, as a complete observational aside: how many of those couples were same sex?

In fact, most of the happiest couples I ever see are the gay couples, men and women pairs both!

The goods are, indeed, always tastier on the other side of the plate. sigh.

Dating is not fun.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 25 July 2003 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

But a date with todd sounds not bad at all!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 July 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, he sounds a bit cheap

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 25 July 2003 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Todd sounds dreamy, except for that tent bit.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 25 July 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Remember the Traitor Hand virtual canoe date? That was kind of dreamy.

I want to get flowers!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Dobbler, put down your stereo.

I WANT LLOYD DOBBLER GODDAMNIT.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a date on Monday! I suspect it won't be terribly romantic (I've a feeling this is headed justfriendswards), but you never know.
