customer service types who make it up as they go along to mask the fact they don't know what they're doing: classic or dud?

so i'm in the post office, sending off records i've sold on ebay that i should have sent a month ago, and in the past they always cost me $3.30 to send. i've had the customer service people argue with me but eventually they concede that that's probably correct.

today i get some silly cow tell me that it's not the case, that if i wanted it sent letter rate i shouldn't declare the contents, but if it's not printed matter i have to declare the contents.. and then crapped on about "random customs checks" and that i should be getting 'postage underpaid' cards in the mail and tries to charge me $8 to post a SEVEN INCH SINGLE and totally contradicts everything i've been told or experienced with the international mail system..

so, have you encountered argumentative bullshit artists at your local whatever shop when trying to do something simple?

Ive had 'em make shit up when they realise you know more than they do... ie the "sales consultants" in places like Hardly Normal who plainly don't know their USB from their UHF.

The post office has, I imagine, still got that governmental "well we're a monopoly, WHERE ELSE YOU GONNA GO EH?" kind of attitude to being helpful. I've been misled several times trying to work out international money orders, and they are ALWAYS grumpy as fuck.

Whats wit dat?
