Is this an excuse for a vanity thread, or am I being quarantined?
Of course, where I to figure out a way to bridge those two things
Anthony thinks I do best, I'd be a happier guy :-)

it makes people happy to talk about what they know. i figure everyone
needs to be a bit happier these days. Now i want you to talk about
law and zappa

You are a saint, Anthony :-)
To be honest, I don't feel much like talking about law right now,
because I'm not happy about where I think it will be heading down
here. I really fear that G.W. and his Administration, and assorted
officials at the state and local levels, will use the bombings as an
excuse to erode, even destroy, some of our hard-earned constitutional
and civil liberties. Better men and better occupants of the Oval
Office than G.W. -- folks like Lincoln, Wilson, F.D.R., Truman, even
Clinton -- couldn't resist the urge to violate people's civil
liberties during times of crisis, so there's no logical reason to
believe that G.W. will succeed where his betters have failed. I do
wish that I had paid more attention in Constitutional Law and
Criminal Procedure classes, though :-)
As fer FZ, I've mostly been listening to Broadway the Hard Way
and Meets the Mothers of Prevention, the most logical Zappa
choices these days. Hadn't really listened to either since Poppy
Bush left office, to tell the truth, and it's odd how dead-on both of
those CDs are in light of recent events. Aside from that, mostly
classical piano music -- Mozart, Debussy, Schubert and the like --
very good for relaxing, easing the spirit as it were (with some
Penderecki thrown in for good measure).

I was thinking of sending this to the 'Don't Even joke' thread, and
maybe I still will! The ONLY Zappa song that ever offended me even in
the slightest was "Dong Work for Yuda", which was about speech
impediments. I'm not afflicted and I don't remotely know anybody who
is, yet when I first heard it I thought it crossed a line! Weird eh?

What, and I don't get a thread to talk about cute boys, drone rock
and paranoia?
Humph, in that case I'll ressusitate the Dirty Dronerock Boys of
Rugby: Shag and Destroy thread!

Actually, "Dong Work for Yoda" was poking fun of Zappa's bodyguard
(who had both a speech impediment
and was prone to
Spoonerisms), not people with speech impediments
per se. But
not knowing that, yeah, a person could get offended by it. The only
2 Zappa songs that offended me were "Baby Don't You Want a Man Like
Me?" and "Jumbo Go Away" (both of which were just pretty mean).
Speaking of offensiveness, I'm not going to listen to Stern anymore.
He went way over the line with his Arab-bashing last
week, making all sorts of "raghead" jokes and saying that we should
just bomb any Muslim country. That was inexcusable.
