should we only eat butter, olive oil, fish fat, eggs, meat, avocdo -- NO MORE MARGARINE?? NO MORE SOY FAT!?

Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 20 June 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

more nuts!

lyra (lyra), Friday, 20 June 2003 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we should go to the plastic surgery center and suck the contents out of a used liposuction needle

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 20 June 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we should eat what we please, when we please, and if we die a year or two earlier, well, so what. I mean, I want to eat what brings me pleasure, not stuff that's a drugery. But at the same time it is worth cultivating a taste for healthy foods and all.

Curtis - you have made me feel very ill to my stomach. Thank you. (And there's a most excellent liposuction sequence in Hiaasen's Skin Deep, I think.

good fats are the kind in the belly

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 20 June 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

porkfat is king. search: american bacon, thick cut (rub with garlic pepper & coriander prior to cooking for maximum good)

Millar (Millar), Friday, 20 June 2003 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

jess is on point, the fat around the belly is finest of all

Millar (Millar), Friday, 20 June 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 20 June 2003 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I absolutely, positively cannot bring myself to use margarine. It just seems so wrong...

I don't really use butter anymore except when baking, I use olive oil almost exclusively now.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

you can make margerine from engine oil

Ed (dali), Friday, 20 June 2003 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with Chris on olive oil and butter (which I still enjoy when there's really good bread around), and I don't want to sound like a scaredy... but the partially hydrogenated oil in Margarine is thought by some to be a secret killah!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 June 2003 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

(Laura in dressed-down sensible hedonism non-shockah!)

I'm not yet convinced that we know much at all about "good fats" vs. "bad fats".

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 20 June 2003 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Butter contains about as much olaic acid as olive oil does. Olaic acid is the really good mono unsaturated fat in olive oil, of course there are loads of saturated fats but get off your arse and do some exercise.

Ed (dali), Friday, 20 June 2003 06:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I too fear the partial hydrogenation. all these people having soy milk, they think they healthy! BUT!! They eat the bad fat then! spy fat is for death, so said. The butter whore, who knew she wiped her lard in my body!

Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 20 June 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Good fats: with the man or woman you love.

Bat fats: in public, at a swimming pool, with your grandparents.

(Laura in dressed-down sensible hedonism non-shockah!)

I really am becoming too predictable, aren't I, Chris P? I need to develop a whole new prissy and uptight persona/alter-ego that can do combat on these boards with the hedonistic/roll in chocolate and have lots of orgasms Laura.

Chris B - I am pretty much all with olive oil these days - unsalted butter for baking - and for spreads and such. The only thing I use margarine for is Chex Mix - the butter scorches too fast.

I hear you have to have extra virgin olive oil though. do you trust this book?!?

Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 20 June 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I only ever buy extra virgin olive oil so it doesn't really matter.
