(Website for that woman off of Casualty (or Holby City) who recently died from falling from a window)

I dunno, this is all a bit over the top, surely? It's sad she's dead and all, but it's such a weird outpouring of grief for someone the people who have left messages on this site only knew as an image on their television screens. I'd bet most of didn't even know her name before her death.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this where Emma's been this week?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

This does seem a bit over the top def. I mean, dont get me wrong, it is sad & very tragic, but still, you know. The best 'candle' has to be this one:-

Abi
It's not often I find a character with so much in common with my own personality.

I met her once, at a ferret farm, I had taken mine to be looked at. Laura liked my ferret.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to know what they're going to do with her character in Holby City. Do soaps have a contigency plan for if an actor dies suddenly in the middle of a story?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Jenny
This is a very sad time, especially that her life came to an end in a place where she spent much of her last years.

Is this meant to mean "you act as a nurse and now you've died in a hospital"?

Jeez, why bother?!?!?!? The world has gone mad.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it means she fell off the balcony in her own house.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

But she died in a hospital...

Anyway, surely the very sad thing is that she was only 22, and anything else is just by-the-by?

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Sod off Tico, I never watch Holby City esp now as it clashes with Dinner Party Inspectors. But it is sad that she died. What a horrible way to go (not that there are many nice ways, of course).

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently she fell after a "cocktail of vodka and cocaine" (c. every sensationalist tabloid ever). The cocaine seems to be the shock tabloid factor, but surely copious amounts of vodka are more likely to result in falling out of a window?

The fact that one is legal and one isn't doesn't necessarily mean the illegal one is that most likely to be involved...

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly.

Sentimental prole shite, as ever. Yucch.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Dinner Party Inspectors?

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I did think "oh that's sad" when I saw but mostly for horrible-way-to-go reasons, I know nothing of Holby City.

Nicole Dinner Party Inspectors is where some people inspect your dinner party and shout at you if it's not good enough.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX should have Thread Inspectors.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Not wishing to derail the thread - but DPI is MARVELLOUS, these 2 v. posh women sit in an upstairs bedroom watching dinner parties on their monitors and slag off everything from seating arrangements to guest behaviour etc. It is totally bitchy and unconstructive, at least most lifestyle shows at least pretend to try to help the victim improve, this has a cursory 30 seconds tacked on the end offering advice to the host. fantastic stuff.

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't that Jess's job? Thread inspector, I mean, not dinner party disser.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Next on EmmaTV: babies torn to pieces by wolves.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Tall buildings should have Balcony Inspectors.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't that Jess's job? Thread inspector, I mean, not dinner party disser.

That's what I thought!

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 20 June 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oi Andrew! I love babies! (please no one say 'but I couldn't eat a whole one')

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Next on EmmaTV: wolves torn to pieces by babies.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 June 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite like wolves too. Can it be rats torn to pieces by wolves that are being ridden by babies?

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

With Baby Inspectors criticising their equestrian skills at the end!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

spitting bees, yes.

(crosspost only improves things here)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 June 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

If the Candles For Laura site has a referrals tracker we could be steering the good ship ILX into interesting waters here.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

oops!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 June 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

How have I missed this 'Dinner Party Inspectors'? It sounds right up my street. I must have been watching Holby City. No, hang on.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

There's only been 2 so far: the first was the best (to draw you in), last week's was a bunch of twatty Oxford students (head of Conservative Association etc) who were quite punchable.

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Twatty Oxford students - quelle suprise.

Emma TV would be the best thing ever, I speak from experience.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The only station where the TV shouts back!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Emma, you have been sorely missed.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

How did you know about her sores?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I'll retract that comment. It makes no sense.

Its obviously Dan who has the sores.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I'm sorey I said anything.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

BUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN HOLBY CITY NOW?!

This is still the burning question.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan I was already having a good day but now it's even better. If anyone has any connections with TV moguls could they see to getting EmmaTV set up (though I can foresee problems due to the similarity to MTV) and having me installed as CEO on a big fat salary. I will take requests from ILXors within reason (ie no Dr Who. sorry)

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

What if it was called Time Inspectors and was bitchy about historical figures' table manners?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Well then it wouldn't be Dr Who would it? I am also banning Sapphire and Steel but Survivors will get a primetime slot.

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

DalEX and the City?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh god now there's going to be a load of puns on Dr Who / TV programmes I like. MAKE IT STOP RIGHT HERE.

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

U+K: plz list Emma's favorite TV shows ASAP thx.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

How we would all long to see Cybermen's Wives.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

and now, May To December, starring Auton Rogers

stevem (blueski), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(that is not one of my favourite TV shows in case anyone gets the wrong idea)

Emma, Friday, 20 June 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn - I thought this was some sort of tribute to yours truly. What a let down. Sucky way to die, though.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 20 June 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Imagine a Doctor Who version of "Coupling" with:

3rd Doctor/Jo Grant
4th Doctor/Leela
7th Doctor/Mel

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 June 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow. Now that's an odd image. And people voluntarily watch it?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 20 June 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

DINNER PARTY INSPECTORS! God I know I'm late into this discussion, but can I just point out how great that is?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was some sort of tribute to yours truly. What a let down.

*hands candles to Ms. Laura*

I'm still trying to get the image of a Dr. Who version of "Coupling" out of my mind.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't get invited to many dinner parties

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 20 June 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently she fell after a "cocktail of vodka and cocaine"

Whenever I hear of a thing like this, I picture it being mixed up in one of those glamourous cocktail shaker things.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Friday, 20 June 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

as cocaine tastes revolting I pronounce this the worst cocktail ever

Matt (Matt), Friday, 20 June 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Laura out of Holby City: A vodka and coke please
Bartender: Here you go
LOOHC: [spits] This tastes like Grandma.
LOOHC: I WANT MORE.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 21 June 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

LOOHC: [falls off balcony]
Bar manager: You idiot - you gave her the lethal cocktail of vodka and coke.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 21 June 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor put upon barman: B-but people drink vodka and coke every night
Bar manager: Did you use this? (waves enormous flask labelled "cocaine for wanker nightclub owner")
PPUB: Yes I did
BM: You! (Shakes fist, credits roll, music that goes parp)

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 21 June 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you Chris - are they the stinky kind?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 21 June 2003 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

They're labelled "sandalwood" but have more of a cedar tree smell.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 21 June 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)
