mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

it's EVERYBODY'S birthday present

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

This has worsened my hangover greatly

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Better step back Rick.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Hangover soothing thread

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"Prince William is known to be a fan of comic rapper Ali G and was said to have been influenced by him when doing some DJ work during his gap year in South America in 2000."

This is I think the sentence the English language was invented for. We can all give up now.

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

This morning is proving very difficult to deal with.

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone find me a picture of the kids from Ker-Ching...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The world just keeps getting better and better.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Happy age attack William!

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"Mr Motion said the form of the poem with its A and B sides was inspired by vinyl LPs and 45s."

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

We invented the remix!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

that's like one of those raps that PJ and Duncan used to do in Byker Grove

j0e (j0e), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

trife to thread!!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely Motion is subtly taking the piss out of William's own attempts at being cool?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 21 June 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"Better stand back
Here's an age attack,
But the second in line
Is dealing with it fine."

oh man, that is so terrible. he is paid how much for this?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 21 June 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

remember that Simpsons episode where Homer had his own bizness and did that commercial that started 'I'm Rappin' Homer, and I'm here to say...' and at the end Bart and Lisa looked him all serious and said 'NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. EVER.' well, yeah.

this must make Arsenio Hall happy because it's proof that Chunky A wasn't the lamest rapper of all time

Neudonym, Saturday, 21 June 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

'shake your can if you have one'

haha!

(i think Neudonym confused Homer's rap with 'rappin Abe Lincoln robot from Duff Gardens)

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 21 June 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank God it could never happen here in America...

OR COULD IT?!?!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 21 June 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

but stevem both exist: Simpsons is FULL of awful rap moments. (didn't RHCP guest star)

Neudonym, Saturday, 21 June 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i just hate the term 'poet laureate'. do you get to wear a sash that says that? why not one that just says 'punch me'?

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 21 June 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Or the far more poetic 'cockfarmer'

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 June 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

cockfarmer laureate!!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i always like to talk to my nieces and nephews by using a few rap rhymes... it lets them know that i'm still a cool cat, or as they say these days, that i'm "down on it"

ron (ron), Saturday, 21 June 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

my children call me a "phat git" *beams*

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The dynamics of that photo could have an entire novel written around them.

nabisco (nabisco), Saturday, 21 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Have any of the previous poet laureates turned out such consistently hilarious work? I suspect most of the others were serious choices.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 21 June 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"down the electric wire the message came
the king is no better — he is much the same"

that's the one between tennyson and masefield

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I nominate ma$efield to succeed.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 21 June 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't Robert Southey roundly mocked during his stint as P.L.?

Paul Eater (eater), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

yes but not for being a bad poet so much as being a political sideswitcher

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh really? I am interested in all such gossip. There's an interesting web page devoted to the Byron-Southey conflict:

"You, Bob! are rather insolent, you know,
At being disappointed in your wish
To supersede all warblers here below,
And be the only Blackbird in the dish;
And then you overstrain yourself, or so,
And tumble downward like the flying fish
Gasping on deck, because you soar too high, Bob,
And fall, for lack of moisture, quite adry, Bob!"

- Lord Byron

("A dry-bob was Regency gentlemen's slang for coition without emission.")

Paul Eater (eater), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

well i think the lefties and pro-jacobins *did* all pretty much argue that his poetry went wack once his politics turned right, but i think there was an element of "SELL-OUT = YOUR VERSE SUX TOO" here

i like byron lots but he disses like a rapper: ie "because it's funny" comes WAY in front of "because it's precise" (he's precise about other things)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

that pic of prince william will give me nightmares tonight.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

GOOD!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

BUT I'M SCARED!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 June 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

its okay to be scared. aroused...now that would be wrong.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 21 June 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

but im arroused

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 21 June 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Prince William!
You're twenty one!
Play some polo
And have some fun
Shouting tally-ho as you go!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 June 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The Jel Laureate!!!

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 21 June 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)
