i met someone at a party tonight that's really NOT my type: manic, silly in a somewhat annoying way, a little, um how do i put this without sounding like a jerk.. obtuse? anyway, she was still v affectionate and wanted my number and said we'd go for coffee later in the week which i don't know if i want to do. the question: has anything worthwhile ever come from what you thought would be the lousiest date ever?

Well my first date with my boy was set up through mutual friends who ~~just happened to know 2 single people of the opposite sex~~ thought we'd get on really well. We started speaking (txting) a few days b4 the date & got on really well, which put more pressure on the date. The actual date was nerveracking, but good. We kept in touch, basically everyday up until now, over a year later. We now live together (after 4 months) & are busy planning a very bright future together! So in answer to your question, potential bad dates can turn out good def!! (and who knows, you might just get what you're actually after!!)
