Morrissey in Gay Shockah?

Our local radio station has been running PSAs for Gay Pride all month, focusing on gay artists (they had a Bob Mould one, a Stephin Merritt one, etc.). Today I heard a Morrissey one. Now, not that he idea of Morrissey being gay could possibly come as a shock, but has he ever been out?

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Saturday, 28 June 2003 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't he always like, "I would be gay if I wasn't celibate?"

Scaredy cat (Natola), Saturday, 28 June 2003 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely the title should read Morrissey in straight shocker.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Saturday, 28 June 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

damn, that copy of morrissey does the dallas cowboys has got out has it?

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 28 June 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

about a year ago there were rumors coming out of LA that he had a girlfriend. Morrissey has always been a gay icon though so whether he's gay or not it makes sense for him to do these PSAs.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Saturday, 28 June 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Morrissey out with a woman at a bar in LA last year. They seemed "together" but they weren't making out or anything.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 28 June 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

so do you live in seattle then?

ron (ron), Saturday, 28 June 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

No, LA actually - as does Morrissey.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 28 June 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, spencer.. Ronny was asking Layna. Our local station, KEXP, has been doing these PSAs, but, ronny, I'm guessing these are all produced (probably in Pueblo, Colorado!) for national syndication on Public service/college stations around the country. Did they mention KEXP in the PSA, specifically?

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 28 June 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, ok thanks for the clarification - I thought it was an odd question!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 28 June 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i always thought he was gay, it's probably weens fault tho:
"all you do is hate life and tell me about it
you're a homosexual, just keep me out of it

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 28 June 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Morrisey is vegisexual

Mike Hanle y (mike), Saturday, 28 June 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember explaining to a moron in high school that Morrissey claimed he was celibate.

The moron reponded thus: "So does that mean he like, f*cks monkeys or something?"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 28 June 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

brian - maybe, but these seem to be narrated by jack walters, (at least i think the bob mould one was, or one of them in anycase :-P ) so i thought they were made here. and yeah, the ones i hear say "stay tuned for more moments in gay pride on kexp" or something

ron (ron), Saturday, 28 June 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

has anyone seen this?

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 28 June 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer, I asked you not to tell anyone about my confusion over the word "celebate". You promised.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 29 June 2003 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, I'm in Seattle, devoted KEXP listener.

Morrissey has always been a gay icon though so whether he's gay or not it makes sense for him to do these PSAs.

HE didn't do it; these PSAs were made by KEXP with song excerpts, and narration from one of the DJs (yes, I think Jack Walters).

I had this awful but funny idea: what if they made the PSAs about various musicians "everyone knows" are gay -- AND WHAT IF ONE OF THEM WEREN'T? That'd be sort of a faux paux.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Sunday, 29 June 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Nate Dogg and Warren G had to celibate...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 29 June 2003 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

also I can't stop thinking about hearing the word 'celibate' sung in that evil 'Celebrex' commercial. Celibate, Celibate, c'mon 'n Celibate!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 29 June 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Think Kool and the Gang instead, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Celibation?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 29 June 2003 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone, around the world...DON'T COME!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

*cradles brow*

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 29 June 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I think this thread needs less celibate, more monkey fucking, thanks.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 29 June 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

damn dirty apes.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 29 June 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they were doing surpringly well with the celebation, Ally.

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 29 June 2003 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It was our cause celibe.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 29 June 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Dear god, Spencer, is this to become a pun war between us? I shall retreat to the island of Celibes if necessary.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Point: Spencer.

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

DAMN YOU SIR.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just hard to beat "cause celibe". I am proud of you for trying.

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

IT'S A FIX!!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly a fix. That or they are smoking the crack pipe down in Portland. AGAIN. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Well clearly Ned has been greasing the wrong guy all this time.

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait--what are you saying here about Spencer then?

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm saying butter never tasted so good!

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)
