I'm not in Melbourne but I could talk about the new one here in Costa Mesa. It's great!

i went there last night to buy some shelving and found the experience unnerving. so labrynth is the lay-out i seriously wondered how the fuck i was going to get out of there. i've never felt claustrophobic shopping before, but sweet jesus, i just had to get out of that brightly lit monstronsity. it's evil i tells ya. evil.

anyone else experienced this?

*smiles proudly at his "home made" shelves*

IKEA's becoming really cheap and nasty. It's fab for some stuff like lighting and kitchenware, but their furniture is rotten these days. Habitat is where it's at

although I must assert that my IKEA kitchen is the best thing in the world.

I have so many fond memories of visiting Ikea (the one in Moorabbin) as a child. It was like some kind of gigantic house from a dream. Completely surreal and interconnected in strange ways. I used to marvel at the seemingly limitless size of the place, and when we'd reach the warehouse (at the end of each visit) it was like having the curtains pulled back - the trick revealed.

Where is the new store? I hadn't heard about it.

opposite the skipping girl. THE BIGGEST FURNITURE STORE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE. apparently. my new nightmare is to be stuck there mid-morning saturday, with wailing kids and a lengthy shopping list. take a compass, a map, a snake bite kit and a packed lunch. never. again.

how's yer radio show going andrew?

I haven't put in my application - I was too late for this round, so I have to wait a few weeks, I think.

I was on my friend's show last night (and will be again, I'm sure). You should listen in. It's called "Booo!", and he/we play(s) some really interesting electronic stuff, ranging from Bhangra to Gabba. Friday nights (technically Saturday morning), midnight till 2am, 90.7fm.

were you underwhelmed with people's suggestions for the title of your show? it's the darndest thing. my last show was called "Radford At Dusk". yep. a real kicker.

I always picture new Ikea's coming in a gigantic box, and being assembled with an immense allen wrench.

The new Woodbridge, Va. Ikea reminded me of an airport -- at least in the restaurant area.

"opposite the skipping girl

I remember that from when I lived in Melbourne several years ago - it was formerly a vinegar factory or something, wasn't it?

Yeah Chris, I was quite underwhelmed indeed. I thought ILX was suspposed to be a hotbed of creativity and good humour? (That I could exploit to satisfy my own needs.) My best idea for the new show is "Bangers and Mash" (for bangin' hardcore and mashups, respectively).
