Which Domain Should I Register?

I'm tired of the sbcglobal address, and figure that for $5/month, I can put up a blog or something (GODHELPME).

The three that pop to my head:

modsvsrockers.com (when I harbored dreams of a tiny record label, it was gonna be Mods vs. Rockers)
sweaterkittens.org
stonefox.com (mediocre film, great line)

You realize now these will all be registered before you get around to choosing one. (i vote modsvsrockers)

And do it NOW before some freak finds this thread and reserves it himself.

Any suggestions on where to register/host? I'd like to keep it in the sub-$10 range/month, and a blog program (Movable Type is the best, no?)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

joker.com is good for registrations.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

If you want a domain and website, I went with arishost.com for mine, who charge USD $30 for one year domain hosting plus a 30mb webspace that supports CGI and PHP etc, and has 5 pop3 accounts as well!

The mails a little flaky but the website's been great, next to no downtime and the online tools are v good.

Best I've ever used: qwk.net. Cheap, fast, reliable, user-friendly, and loaded with options.

Domain name: thevibratinghead.com

last time I thought about doing this it was going to be downbytheriver.net but that one's gone now. I have a good one in mind but I'm keeping it secret for now. But you should still offer suggestions because it might actually not be that good.

what because .org was taken on that one?

additional information: will likely be doing subdomains or whatever they're called, so that my boy and I can share the name. Thus:

smellmy.cheese.org
ilike.cheese.org
crotch.cheese.org

for example. You see the comic possibilities.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

oooh I did it!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

so exciting!

It really was a great deal...their top-of-the line web hosting package ($80/mo) for the entry level price ($10/mo). Here's the list of what you get. And they will register your first domain for free! They waive the setup fee if you pay a year in advance, so I did that, and my total was less than $120.

It's only good through tomorrow though! If you do it, use me as a reference...starstarstar.net.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

bump because this really is an insanely awesome deal and I don't want anyone to miss out. sorry for the me-me-me thread.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Just sign me up to this voiceover site of yours. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah pointed out to me that the person who does the voiceovers for movie previews and commercials is never a woman, which I had never thought about before, but now it's bugging me. You should register the voiceover domain too and start an all-female movie preview voiceover company, and sue for sexual discrimination when you don't get any work from the big studios.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Registering/Hosting:
I register for about $8 a year through http://www.namecheap.com and I pay only a slight bit more a month for a rather nice package via http://www.neitsolutions.com. I definitely would recommend either for anyone considering this.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 24 July 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

I would like to take back anything nice I said upthread about arishost - they suck so much arse I even had trouble moving AWAY from them to a local providor who are loads better.

Anyone?

Jimmy Mod (I myself am lethal at 100 -110dB) (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Monday, 16 January 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

On minute, I'm chatting with an old friend late at night, having a good larf, everything is golden. The next minute, I am the owner of tittysprinkles.net.

Now, as funny as tittysprinkles is, I have to wonder:

1) How long will it continue to be funny, as a domain name? A domain name is not something you encounter occasionally, if it happens to be your own.

2) Can I really put something like a work portfolio up on tittysprinkles.net? I doubt this very much.

3) What should I name it instead?

I had not even thought of that angle, RH. A lawn sprinkler, like. I was thinking more about cupcakes.

kenan, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)

(um... I feel I should explain for those of you who are maybe thinking I'm more off balance than I am, which would be way too far off balance. "Titty sprinkles" is an obscenity made up by Eric Cartman during a fit of his alleged Tourette's. Shit is funny, trust me.)
