Hasn't been the same without you around!

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaawwww, thanks. I feel so loved. TWO threads welcoming me back, even though I've only been away two months.

And here was me thinking that ILE was a better place without me, etc. etc.

I've missed... well, most of you!

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I take full credit for talking her back! All praise the This is the thread where we RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thread!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 3 July 2003 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, Nick, if it will make you happy, you can take credit for talking me back. ;-)

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed kate, it hasn't been the same without you!!

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 3 July 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, it's sweet of you to say that. No Time Team, no kinky sex with HSA... which reminds me!!! Did we have a thread to discuss The Big Dig?

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yayayayayayay kate!

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 3 July 2003 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Since we're not supposed to continue the lollies suck thread, I just want to say that Beth of the Gossip overcompensating for her insecurities in public by making a spectacle of herself does not mean her band is any good. You want a freak show, go to the fun fair.

that said, I *lurv* Kate.

rant rant rant (Catty), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Kate. Welcome back.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

We all do!

overcompensating for her insecurities in public

i don't like going to gigs these days. The moshpit's always full of psychiatrists.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't talk about The Gossip on my thread. This thread is about MEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEEEEEEEE!!! Talk about Time Team or Dronerock or Freemasons or dirty hair or just about your love for meeeeeee!!! That is all. Thank you. ;-)

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Did anyone see the football last night?

;-)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you really really want 1000's of HSA photos splashed across your sporting threads> I mean, do you REALLY?

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Point taken - welcome back Kate :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, your wish is... (ect ect)

Time Team: I have a friend who works for C4 who did the Big Dig. This is a Good Thing.

The fact that she did the Big Dig meant she was too knackered to go for a drink with me on Saturday evening. This is a Bad Thing.

Tell us more abt Dronerock. Actually, tell us more abt everything you've done musically since the end of the band we're not supposed to talk abt, coz I'm interested. And I want to hear it.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The Big Dig like the project in Boston?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 3 July 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to see the gossip last night but left before they came on stage.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 3 July 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I didn't miss Kate at all :-p

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 3 July 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

OOps, sorry, MarkH didn't see yer question!

I've started a band called the Electric Bubblegum Arkestra. The idea is to take popsongs and play them like they are improvisational dronerock. I.E. take sample loops and drones and program them into a computer, and then play live Pop Songs over the top.

It seems to have been successful, as we have some Proper Interest, and I've just recently had some exciting news, and possibly/probably this will actually be recorded and available soon!

I would be rude to you, Charlie, except I *know* that you really didn't miss me because you saw/talked to me in other places so :-P

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

As far as I know they're not THAT explicit, RJG

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 July 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

And welcome back Kate, too

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 July 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Electirc Bubblegum Arkestra sounds really interesting and I'd like to be able to promise to come to yr next gig, but as I am in Oxford I can promise no such thing. I do make it up every so often tho, so i'll do my best.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 3 July 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just floating in an incredible state of frustration right now because I am so full of excitement and plans and I want to roar full-speed ahead into everything, but trying to get my bloody bandmate to commit to doing anything is like trying to herd cats.

I'm meeting with him tonight to try and say "Look, all of THIS is on the table, potentially on offer - recording deals, publishing deals, touring Europe - now can we PLEASE just knuckle down and do some work!!!" when I've got my Hot Producer Friend emailing me often saying "where are your new song demos?" and I feel like my bandmate is MAKING ME LOOK BAD because if I had the software and a home recording studio, I'd have finished it already. Sigh.

This is really difficult because I'm so impatient and I've waited long enough already. If this means I have to spend the weekend in the studio instead of going to Wiltshire, well, then, that is what it means! I'm serious, why must I be surrounded by MONKEYS?!?!?!?

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I am immensely glad that Kate is back. Our droning grows louder.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 3 July 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I am glad too.

estela (estela), Thursday, 3 July 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

hip hip hurray for the return of kate! who is simply g-r-a-t-e! :-)

(p.s., would someone make me a L*****s tape, or trade for a CD or something? I have never heard them but am convinced I wd love em from the Shangri-Las comparisons) (sorry if I'm not supposed to mention them here, but I didn't think it would be useful to revive another thread for the purpose) (anyway email me in private if you like, so as not to deflect this thread)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 4 July 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

if my bandmate's stuffing around was preventing me from working with someone like JF i would kick their sweet sweet arse right out of the band.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 4 July 2003 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

This is not necessary now. We had a chat last night and he has been whipped into shape. Not literally, or HSA would get jealous. It has been impressed upon him what a Big Deal this is and how important it is, so we are going to get our acts together and work some more next week.

But honestly... I think I understand what his hesitations are. I mean, honestly, I (or many other people) would kill to be in this situation - former roadie/soundman who just happens to working on a demo when the Call comes. He said something to the effect of, he thinks that I'll sack him and replace him with session players the moment that something happens. Christ, I've *been* a session player, I don't *want* to work with session players. I want to work in a situation that's comfortable with someone who is musically compatible.

So I'm suspicious of him because he's not delivering, therefore he gets suspicious of me because I'm getting so antsy. But, I think we've sorted it out, and we've agreed to finish our 6 songs and go from there.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

**if my bandmate's stuffing around was preventing me from working with someone like JF i would kick their sweet sweet arse right out of the band**

JF? Julie Felix? John Foxx? Jose Feliciano?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

James Fox? Jodie Foster?

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Joe Foster.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ach, you spoiled the fun.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

We could pretend that you didn't get it, and we could all keep guessing! Jad Fair! John Fogarty! Jack Fairy!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

William Burroughs? Yeats?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't be silly. William Butler Yeats' initials aren't JF!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I meant Julio's restrained "wb" above. These games are fun.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah! I see! Warner Brothers! Wooton-Basset!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

West Kennet Barrow?

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I nearly said "welcome back Kater" before, but that would've been pretty stupid

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, I'm lysdexic.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been back for 3 days and I'm already 62 on the Statscock! Wheee!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is everybody? It's Friday afternoon and I'm BORED!!! Oh, sod it, I'm going for lunch.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm here but I'm not going to ilxor after my lunch break. Anyone who wants to email me though, PLEASE Ddo as I are bored and craving stimulation!

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 4 July 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You've all gone to the pub, haven't you? Sigh. Last week, my boss went to the pub, and him and the MD of the company got BEATEN UP!!! Not by me, I might add. Clerkenwell is getting really dodgy.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm back but I'm catty.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

You're not Catty. She's not writing to me either and I'm still BOOOORRRRRRED!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I am. I smell of cats.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

So C really stands for Cat? I never knew. I thought it was for COOKIE. Call me Dr. Cookie.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my cats pissed on my shoe this morning. It's OK, I sorted it - I shot it.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You didn't get Doomie to put it to sleep for you?

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Shot it...with a waterpistol.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 4 July 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't forget Kate, its MEGAFAP day in NYC, all those jetsetters are getting drunk in a somewhat akward manner aren't they?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't expecting any Americans online. But it doesn't explain the mysterious lack of English stumbling back drunk from the pub.

Hey, Noodles! I just got this... rebranding package from a Canadian mobile phone operator. Two pamplets - but the French one is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORDING than the English one. I mean, even I know enough Quebequois to know that it's different! Surely this is illegal?

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

(It has lots of cute pictures of doggies, though.)

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well aslong as they say the same thing in the end, aside from the legal part which may be different since they use a different legal system.

Oh you mean FIDO.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it freaked me out since the French one started talking about Belle and Sebastian. WTF? And Beethoven! While the English one talked about Snoopy and Lassie. I don't understand.

Oh, and you know of this Fido, then? Have they had a massive rebranding campaign? Cause this is the third note I've got about it. Yes, I know. you're a dog now. Now shut up and stop bothering me.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Fido has been going for a couple years hear, the commercials are annoying. So they were probably calling in images of favorite childhood dogs. Most english Canadians probably think Belle and Sebastien is a band in Scotland.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Prseumably, when it comes to well-known dogs from telly or the movies, more French people have heard of Belle than Lassie.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah. But what about Beethoven? What does he have to do with dogs?

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

St Bernard family hit movie. I saw it!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but is it French? Beethoven was German, IIRC. And St.Bernards are Swiss.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, right. Nope, US. I imagine that's the source, though.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to copy the text, but then I realised it was a PDF and I couldnt' copy and paste, and that's way too much French to type. Ah well. The mysteries of Quebec; I'll never know.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Movie was translated into French garenteed though.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't ponder the mysteries, just eat the poutine and enjoy.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but why would Beethoven only appear in the French version but not in the English version. Because the idea of loving dogs not eating them is something that has to be explained to the French while its inborn in the English?

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

YESSSS!!! I have hit the Top 50 Statscock in 3 days!!! Mwah hah hah!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Because the French love awful slapstick comedy?

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I hear they like Jerry Lewis! (I was going to post that orig)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Because the French research team is playing a joke on their english counterparts?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm Catty!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

C is for Cookie.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Give the dog a phone.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

eeeyyyywwwwooooo.... post-lunch sugar rush.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

What are you doing on ILE? Write to me, write to MEEEEEEE!!! Ha-hem.

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Catty (Catty), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry. will return to writing to kate.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

By the time you've finished I'll probably have gone home... sniff!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Your sure there late, go home Kate!
And if your boss asks, tell him I said so.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not late, it's only ten to five! And the Sys Admin guy just came over and asked what I was looking at, but instead of getting in trouble, he wanted me to forward him the URL of the giant map of London! Tee hee he!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ten to five on a Friday is 5:30 on any other day. Its all about the fourth dimension.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I have become entranced by the Giant Map. I think half of ILE has been ensnared by it!

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

CJ: Go to www.multimap.com - put in your postcode and then zoom in and out to your hearts desire.

You can zoom in and out and pan left and right to heart desire.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 4 July 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You can also overlaythe map. What town is it Kate?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 4 July 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Its not looking as acurate as www.mapquest.com for me. It says I live in Silverthorn which is a good 10 minute walk.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 4 July 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

have finished writing kate and am going home. will leave you all with this exciting america day treat:
