When? And who?

Tom, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thankyou Katie for this genius idea.

Tom, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

awww *blush* no probs :) OK well, Sarah mentioned the Cafe Naz which i have never been to but i'm sure is wonderful. do they let you bring your own booze as i feel that this is an integral (and cheaper!!) part of the experience?

katie, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

bring your own curry houses = classic, see Zara's Kitchen in Camberwell, that was fantastic last time I went, admittedly about three years ago.

cabbage, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that's bring your own curry houses where you are allowed to take your own booze in and drink it with your meal, before the pedants strike!

cabbage, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Bring your own curry house'? That's just mad good! Is it inflatable?

Nick, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

too late cabbage.

katie, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hem hem well myself and the Arsemonkey are in a position to possibly "check out" the Camberwell scene from our luxury BriXtoR pad - however strickley speaking I think Brick Lane would be a lot cooler and more like A FUN DAY OUT FOR ALL.

I'm not sure re: the Bring Yer Own situation at Cafe Naz, though. I could call and ask...

Sarah, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Zara's Kitchen was a regular haunt of mine until I (sob) moved away from Pckham. It's a strange cuisine, being a Nigerian - Indian restaurant, but none the worse for that. Went in there once with my brother and his girlfriend, all feeling a little peckish. By the end of the meal, the chef came out and told us he couldn't believe just three people had scoffed that quantity of food. Mutual congratulations ensued.

Only been to Cafe Naz the once: thought it was OK but not stellar. Think one buys their alcohol there.

Tim, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well we had the um, HOUSE LAGER when there last time. It's been a favourite amongst a wee select circle for a while, so I haven't really got any expertise on other Brick Lane curry houses more fool me. I've always really liked it there though!

Sarah, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I remember watching the game where Croatia stuffed Germany in the 98 world cup in there, the portions were massive, everyone was watching the game and drinking copious amounts of fizzy lager booze, marvellous. Afterwards we went over the road to the Hermit's cave, a fantastic little boozer.

cabbage, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Only problem with the Hermit's Cave is that they would rather show filthy irrelevant international rugby matches than crucial football results at 4.45 on a Saturday afternoon. A bad thing (as all sane people will agree), and my only criticism of a very pleasant and unusual boozer.

I saw Croatia play Germany at Euro 96. In the Croatian end. Good game, not a very enjoyable experience on the whole.

Tim, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm a lucky boy, I can't remember ever seeing the rugby in there but then I never went in on Saturday afternoons. There's a few good boozers round there in fact iirc, another one was the Grove. None of them particularly spotless, but all good. Unlike the new trendy ones that opened up and were rubbish.

cabbage, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If you two have quite finished, has anyone got any suggestions for a date?

Tom, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, first take the young lady to see a film - nothing too violent / actiony or arty - then for a drink afterwards.

Emma, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Or cook the lucky young person a lovely meal at home, Tom, but remember to tidy up properly or disaster might ensue.

Tim, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Either this Saturday or the Saturday afterwards would be great by me! Am actually facing a situation after that where my weekends could possibly be TAKEN UP by like, going away, and doing... STUFF - but I reckon I am clear for these ones. Ackshirely, is this w/e too soon? Just wondering as it's occured to me I could be making that visit to Preston I've been promised the weekend but as I can't find my Young Persons railcard, who kno eh?

(Just realised I nearly spelt afterwards as "afterwoulds". Does this say something about my pronunciation affectin' me spellin or wot?)

Sarah, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Next weekend would be better for me.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Next w/e is cool for me too I think.

Tom, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have eaten three curries in the last four days. Don't stop me now.

Pete, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I meant next weekend as in not this one, but the one after. The 29th.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm going to glasgow then, but never mind, , see if i care.

On a curry-house-related note, has anyone else ever had a nargus (sp?) kebab at a curry house before. It was a speciality of one particular restaurant in cheltenham, and i think they might have made it up, to confuse simple cheltonians. basically what it is, is a hard boiled egg, covered in kebaby-lamby type meat with a little omlettey thing on the top, bit like a scotch egg, and frankly, bludy gorgeous, but i've never seen it *anywhere* else...

carsmilesteve, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

could only do it before w/e. Best curry house is the Lahore 2 just off comercial Road, better than brick lane lot, very limited menu but everything on it excellent, bill has never come to more than 20 quid. (lamb chop curry on alternate fridays iss the absolute best)

Ed, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I read the whole of this thread thinking THE LAHORE! WHY HAS NOBODY MENTIONED THE LAHORE? And look, Ed just has. It's great. I'm busy this Saturday and in Scotland with Mr Carsmile and others the Saturday afterwards so I might miss it, but seriously, THE LAHORE IS BESTEST. And it's BYO and there's an offy over the road.

Madchen, Wednesday, 19 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Lahore? Eeek! Isn't there one also in Tooting which is terrifying and Paul and I will never go there, even though it's just on the corner, because they have this inscription over the door that says "Once you have tasted our food, you will never go anywhere else, just..." in the most scary of inferrals. I have never seen three dots (what is their proper name? an elipsis?) look so terrifying.

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay well I seem to be free for w/e AFTER the 29th now, ie, 6th October (Saturday after) might be a bit better for those off up to Glasgow. Either the 29th or the 6th is alright for me - I have a gaping (in fact empty) social diary. 29th is however SOONER and I am hungry for curry.

Sarah, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate, 'inferrals'? (I FEEL VOXISH)

Nick, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it is likely i shall be able to make the w/e of the 6th. please let this be north of the river.

gareth, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

and not in Tooting (or anywhere else on the south coast;))

gareth, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

two years pass...
A good idea is a good idea for ever.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 20 October 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

you should've come out to Southall ;)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 20 October 2003 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I must admit I'm a bit curried out! (And I didn't even get to eat curry on Thursday.)
