It's been bamboozling me. I contend that second post has been abolished but my friend alway states - don't worry it will come in second post. Is there a second post for mail in London?

We get two mails a day in my office. This is of great annoyance to me, as just when you think you're safe, another wad of invoices lands on your desk. Grrrrr.

kate (kate), Monday, 7 July 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

There is definetly a second post.

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 July 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

businesses i think get a second post: i don't believe ordinary homes in hackney do

mark s (mark s), Monday, 7 July 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think ordinary homes get second post either. That is always the debate. Don't worry the package will show up in second post! But..but there IS NO SECOND POST!

I have lived in SEVERAL ordinary homes that got second post. Recently!

The Kingdom of the Dirt Queen (a council flat in Hoxton - politically Hackney but postally N1) used to get a second post. As did Clerkenwell (c.f. Ed's post above.) I couldn't tell you about Bloomsbury as I'm never there during the week days, but I suspect that it does.

kate (kate), Monday, 7 July 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

we got second post in N1 (in the politically islington half)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 7 July 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

that'll be Vicky to thread then!

chris (chris), Monday, 7 July 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we get it in N7 as well.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 7 July 2003 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont get second post (Greater London)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 7 July 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha, maybe this is a better indication of "Are you suburbia?" is "Do you get a second post?" Maybe? I don't know. Is there a second post in Peckham?

kate (kate), Monday, 7 July 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I live in Central London. I'm just not around for most morning to notice that there is a second post or more mail coming through. Too busy to really notice.

hear no evil monkey, Monday, 7 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i expect all London postcodes get a second post but thats it - or at least postal regions within an area equivalent to Zone 2/3 on the underground.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 7 July 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Peckham has a second post: are you using Peckham as a measure of suburbanness Kate? I hope so. (It may be suburbane).

Tim (Tim), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

There is no second post in my part of SE London. We're getting electricity next week, tho'.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Remember, you only get a second post when they have mail to deliver for second post.

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

THERE IS NO SECOND POST IN CLAPTON!!

mark s (mark s), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

only tears in heaven

Andrew L (Andrew L), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

in the good old days (19th C) there were up to 8 posts a day in London. A man could write to his good lady wife at lunch time to say that he would be late home for dinner.

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

There was also consumption.

And note that bills & junk mail - by the nature of the post rooms they come out of and the way they are adressed will nearly always come first post. So if you only ever get bills and junk mail, you're be stuck with post mumero uno mainly.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah! Now I've read the Bran Tub thread I understand what Kate was on about. Sorry!

Tim (Tim), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we get a second post sometimes, it's nice of them.
