plus fc kahuna and erol alkan

anyone up for it?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 7 July 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

how about we find a free party an go to that

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 July 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do people in the UK like Tiga so much? Here in Montreal, only those painfully thin beautiful girls that have money to burn on going out to Stereo, Aria, and Sona every weekend seem to still like him.

cybele (cybele), Monday, 7 July 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm, the thought of it being full of painfully beautiful girls is obviously off-putting, but this even tempts this old man. I was listening to Sunglasses At Night and some Kahuna this very weekend. But there is probably an age limit. Last time I was in a club, while waiting by the door at the end of the evening (for friends getting coats and going to toilets), punters were nodding at me and saying 'thanks' and stuff.

Tell me about the nite and venue, Gareth, bearing in mind my ignorance.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 7 July 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The End has the greatest sound system in london if not the world.

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 July 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I could probably think of a few sound systems that might beg to differ.

And Martin--I said painfully THIN...

cybele (cybele), Monday, 7 July 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh its about time i went to The End for fucks sake

gareth please dont go out on the preceding friday this time ;)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 7 July 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 7 July 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i saw this. i cant go though cos i will be in sheffield.

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

ambrose, this weekend? steam trains?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

yer wot?

no i am going up on the 18th. for kid acne/raw teeth. i wont be travelling there by steam train though - think 'burgundy ford escort 1991'.

however, travelling on a steam train that weekend is a possiblity.

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

been there done that (at piano's)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

not that weekend, this weekend 12th or 13th. I should come for raw teeth really shouldn't I.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem, i am working the saturday, so i will be tucked up in bed on the friday. the pills'n'booze'909 weekend (i am better than you remix) was not handled/planned particularly well on my part. i have better minders now

ps. been there done that (at nag nag nag) ;)

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i've seen Kahuna and Alkan before - both great. Tiga's DJ Kicks mix is good so this could be a great night indeed. more people come dam yous.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

alkan good, kahuna and tiga meh

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

req + kid acne are playing 93 feet east tonite

i will be seeing the rapture tho

Chip Morningstar (bob), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

*do not see ratpure

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

why not, i thought some painfully thin girls might show up

Chip Morningstar (bob), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

also i imagined they might be better live than on rec

obv

Chip Morningstar (bob), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i will be in bed the friday, which means i will be healthy and ready for saturday. no ducking out!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm definitely up for it. it's going in the diary now.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, love to, good plan etc.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i email lucy and charlotte see if they still coming, then lets get tickets!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I wanna go. Anna, mail me the details for the pressofficer and will get me and Ed on the list.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

If I'm going I'll need chemical help. (everything sound s good with chemical help).

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

where to get tix? or just pay on door?

gareth in nyc, Friday, 11 July 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

*do not see ratpure

Ignore this advice. They're good, you know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, now i believe (just downloaded the album, must go listen)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 July 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

is on saturday. lets have roll call!

gareth (gareth), Monday, 14 July 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i wear my sunglasses at night so i can so i can look like an utter nob

stevem (blueski), Monday, 14 July 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we're coming unless we can derail you towards a squat party. 1 of Black strobe is djing as well.

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm on the list for The End now, plus 2, so i really hope no derailment will occur

stevem (blueski), Monday, 14 July 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

we're coming, hopefully anna is getting us on the list today...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm coming, but this depends on a Very Important Thing not happening, which I almost hope it doesn't. So yes, very probably.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey not fair, you lot getting on the list! *sigh - the lives of the rich & famous* ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

toby can you tell anna to contact us with who to call with list details. i fear she may have mislaid her phone.

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

will do ed. i don't think she's lost her phone, i spoke to her a few hours ago...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt DC in 'suddenly unable to attend due to mysterious undisclosed obligation' shockah!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Do they let people in who just show up with money?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

of course but they have to queue (and pay of course)

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw this same lineup w/2 Many DJs. When Alkan played "Franch Kiss" he put his finger on the record during the slow part to make it even slower. Kahuna had some meh moments but he had some great ones too, overall it was super.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 July 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

BONG

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

where do folks want to meet up beforehand? any ideas?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

[SECRET!]

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's that?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

somewhere 10 yrds from eds flat. spot the pattern?

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

[Its a secret]

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds good to me - can be there anytime in the evening

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

If it's a secret, how are people ever going to find it?

(Every time I decide to go there, it has VANISHED, Platform 9 3/4 Stylee!!!)

Oh, and are you going to be home for another hour or so? Suzy said I had Very Important Post? (Sorry, phone is knackered)

kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Somewhere within walking distance of The End would be nice.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It's 10 minutes wall form the End.

Email me for the details of the bar. Suzy pointed out that technically its a private members bar and we shouldn't shout about it on the net.

(kate we're here for the foreseeable)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It's much more mysterious than that. It's not that I go there and they refuse me entry on account of I'm not a member. It's more a case of I go there and there is a BRICK WALL WHERE THE BAR SHOULD BE LIKE THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BAR THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

I'll be around about 5.45 - don't go bouncing checks with my name on them all over town before I get there, ya hear? ;-)

kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Aha a muggle!

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm looking forwad to this. last night i contemplated trying to outdress Tiga on the night...all i need is a red beret and i'm good to go

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, im looking forward to this. should we have a roll call? stevem-mattdc-anna-toby-ed-suzy? anyone else in?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

did anyone else see the article about this in time out? he's debuting some new tunes, apparently. i'm very excited about the whole thing...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

times-details-logistics please. focus, people, focus

gareth (gareth), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a SECRET!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.duffzone.co.uk/grabpics/thumbs/kra.lenny_thumb.gif

shuuuutt up!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

well, is the h****n w*** a definite plan? any ideas about times, anyone?

toby (tsg20), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i am quite enjoying the vagueness of it all actually

but someone tell me where this secret bar is and i'll be there around 10 probably (or earlier if others are)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

We are going to meet from 8:30 pm onwards at the secret location. Mail me for de3tails also mail me mobile numbers for direction finding tings.

Ed (dali), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

just waiting for a reply ed ;)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You will need mobile numbers trying to find that bar. I walked past it many times wailing 'but there is no bar there!"

Anna (Anna), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

well since it is 'exclusive' or whatever there was be some secret passage anna. look harder next time.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

this bar sounds snooty - i may need to replace the beret with a top hat

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna is also a mugwump. I feel relived to be in good company.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Beret's? Secret passages? This is all getting very Allo Allo. Are we going to turn up to find the place full of French communists who we need to transport to Marseille in a hot-air baloon dressed as clowns?

Time-wise - 9.00-ish?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Listen very carefully, I will post this only once.

I have found it on subsequent occassions and it is a great bar. People can e-mail for my number too if they wish.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I have emailed those who emailed me.

Don't forget the passowrd and the location of the secret bell push.

Ed (dali), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and the knockwurst sausage containing the forgery of the painting of the fallen madonna with the big boobies by Van Clump.

Ed (dali), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Any bar which does cold saké boxes for £2.50 is way OK by me. You get a small glass of saké in a wooden box, and the bartender fills it so another whole measure of saké overflows into the box, which you tip into the glass once empty. Then repeat ohh, say about ten times to achieve terminal toxicity as on my birthday (ulp!).

suzy (suzy), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone else who wants to come along for the drinking bit (or the clubbing bit), email me.

Ed (dali), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

will head to the Apple Tree first for around 9, so see you in OTHER BAR around 10pm

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 July 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is this Apple Tree? I am still undecided about going, and I fear the heat if the day continues this way, but if I do show I'd rather meet somewhere like a normal pub.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

its on Mount Pleasant martin, never been there before either here

hope to see you there

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, I have been there before, yes. I'm leaning towards not showing, I'm afraid, but I might feel different in a few hours.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Everytime I hear the name of that pub I get the bloddy Andrews Sisters stuck in my head.

Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me/ anyone else but me/ no no no/ don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me/ 'till I come marching home.

I will be singing it over all the records tonight.

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 19 July 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the Apple Tree was closed anyway, the place was deserted - insane.

Bugged Out was ahright tho - Tiga and Erol were pretty good, at least on and off - got bored by KC Kahuna's relentless 4/4 slate tho, prefer their electro stuff far more but heard none of it, bah

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 July 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

None of the DJs had Da Funk. It also sounded like they were playing everything on 33 when it should have been on 78.

Lots of fun though.

Saved by an italian sausage sandwidge this morning. We wandered down to the Festa Italiana that's going on today on Warner stree and won a bottle of peach pseudo champagne and a bottle of red wine for a pound on the bottle stall.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 20 July 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

None of the DJs had Da Funk

but Erol played 'Burnin' which shocked me

I would like an Italian sausage sandwich right now. I cooked a fry-up when i got home (bout 6am) then went to bed.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 July 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Very good night indeed... I thought Tiga rocked, although I was kind of meh about Erol - mostly because I don't think I was really in the mood for it at the time, needed something a bit beefier.

I enjoyed FC Kahuna as well, but I was perfectly happy to hear relentless 4/4 at that time of night.

What was that "London's burning down..." record that was dropped at least three times over the course of the night?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 20 July 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought the middle hour of tiga was *amazing*, but the rest of the night was a bit rub. the last half hour of tiga was a bit anonymous - where did the vocals go? - and erol alkan wasn't doing much for me. they both seemed to want to avoid playing the obvious hits (i would have killed for silver screen shower scene or similar).

i too really really want to know what the "london's burning down/new york's burning down" record is. also: what was that amazing version of 7 nation army that tiga played?? the losing my edge/like i love you mashup was quite fun, too, if a little repetitive.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 20 July 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Erol played a pretty cool electro mix of 50 Cent....i've suddenly remembered Tiga playing 'She Sells bloody Sanctuary' by The Cult as well!

i'm glad fun was had anyway.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 July 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Toby I reckon the White Stripes thing might be Trevor Jackson's remix, I only heard it once but it was really acidy and had that "make the sweat drip out every pore" part looped.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 20 July 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

er....I wasn't there of course, I just reckon it might be something Tiga would play.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 20 July 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

that sounds plausible, it was definitely v acidy. to start with we thought he'd just pitched it up but then it went into a much more electro thing.

has it been released?! "white stripes jackson" isn't giving anything on slsk...

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 20 July 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The White Stripes mix wasn't that acidy... I thought it focused on the drums and the bassline and then gradually built up until the guitars were unleashed and it all when a bit mental.

The 50 Cent mix was whacked in with Closer by NIN, wasn't it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 July 2003 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The Apple tree is always closed on Saturdays kids.

chris (chris), Monday, 21 July 2003 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

What sort of self-respecting pub closes on a Saturday?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Office worker pubs. ::shudders:: There's a lot of them in this neighbourhood!

kate (kate), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

this would seem to sort out the london's burning track and the white stripes mix:

http://tiga.ca/top10.html

3. Tiga - Burning Down (London-New York) - Turbo Recordings
4. The White Stripes - 7 Inch Army (Touched By The Hand Of Z) - CDR

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I still feel like I'm recovering. Blame the sake boxes.

Spent all day yesterday recovering from hangover with an assortment of fried and grilled Italian food items purchased from stalls at the Sagra.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

you can hear the tiga track about 25mins in here:

http://www.trashclub.co.uk/playlouder16.html

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not an office workers pub, it's a posties pub, with a lovely landlady who's decided she wants saturday off!

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

hey does anybody here have the tiga dj-kicks? and if they do can they tell me whether it really does have 'dirty cash(money talks)' by adventures of stevie v on it? cos i cant see it on the tracklist but i read that it was there.... (sorry normally i would have revived a diff. thread but with search out of action this is the easiest way)

minna (minna), Monday, 21 July 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh its on there - its the Red Zone mix, track 14

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 July 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The mix of She Sells Sanctuary with Bucci Bag was excellent. Made me very happy. As did the very large club sandwhich in the World's Cafe the next day.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

So does Erol steal all his ideas from 2ManyDJs, or vice versa?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

ok weird

on this tracklist number 14 is something called 'rather be'

???

are there different versions?

minna (minna), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 07:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Crowdpleaser/St Plomb's 'Rather Be' is track 15 on the copy i downloaded...sounds like you may have the 'Dirty Cash' track missing minna?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the UK release appears to be the one i have - except the Amazon UK listing also misses out the 'Dirty Cash' track (tho it lists 'unknown - capella' at track 14 with 'rather be' after)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)
