My first sleepover..............

...i remember distinctly.

i was five and was invited to stay overnight at H's house. H's family lived on a farm just outside of melbourne, in a mud-brick house they'd built themselves. it was late at night and the house was bedded down but i found myself in dire need of the toilet. i crept out of the top bunk and began to make my way to the bathroom, a healthy distance away at the far end of the house. panic gripped me. it was very dark and the trees outside scraped against the windows. my bladder was bursting.

out of sheer desperation and in a move that has haunted me to the day, i dropped my pjs and PISSED ON THE WALL ADJOINING H'S ROOM AND HIS FOLKS. leaving a great steaming arch of urine on the mud brick wall, i hitched up and went back to bed.

nothing was said the next morning so i thought my midnight ablutions had gone unnoticed. H and i drifted apart and i was never again invited back. when relecting upon this, years later i'd wonder if the great arch had been my undoing.

c'mon folks, what have your overnight experiences been like?

mmmmm grubs.

it's funny how the mind works. i'd be thinking "well i did piss on their wall but i was scared and busting and i'm sure it didn't stink"

That's a very poignant story. I'm sad that it haunted you; I imagine a worried small boy with round eyes lying awake in a darkened room, night after night, trying to reassure himself: "well i did piss on their wall but i was scared and busting and i'm sure it didn't stink" .

One of my first sleep-overs, I was 8 methinks, I was one of a group of 5 boys staying over at our friend "A"s house. They were all 9 or 10 and so of course WAAAY cooler than me. After coming back from the bathroom (where I had pee'd and shook dry) they asked me how many times I had wiped. I panicked and said "fifteen". From that moment on I was "Sir Stankbutt Wipes-A-Lot" to them. At least until about 4 that morning.

I had a problem with staying at friends houses for a long time. I'd go there, and then in the middle of the night I'd just freak out, call my parents and ask them to pick me up.

I figured out later that it was to do with the abusive relationships between some of my friends and their family members. My then-best friend used to get into violent altercations with his two older brothers. Another friend used to get beating by his mother. Coming from a family where we were never physically disciplined, and where my only sibling was an older sister with whom I was the agitator, this exposure to domestic violence had a pretty strong effect on me.
