Gareth, is there a possible square inch LEFT of this earth that you haven't discussed or at least considered visiting?

kate (kate), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

has he been to Rhyl?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

as far as i can tell, you don't want to go to Moldova.

if you want depressing, try belarus. at least minsk is quite nice, sort of.

this isnt very helpful though.
these sound very cheery about the whole thing though!

just dont go to the easterly bit where they're all russian and have tried to declare themselves a seperate state, along the banks of the...dneiper? i forget. but that bit is definately fucked/v dangerous. in any case i would get some advice from the foreign office. a bit like this

you can tell im bored at work eh

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

clearly the Russian bar just is no longer enough.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The soviet union lives on in a small corner of moldova. They consider that the rest of the USSR ceceded and that they are the real continuing USSR.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

well, they don't treat their international mobile roaming invoices in the same odd and completely unique way that Russian operators do, so actually, in some respects, you're wrong, Ed.

That is the only thing that I know about Moldova.

kate (kate), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you read this book? It'll tell you lots and lots about the country, and I thought it was surprisingly funny. They should have it in your local library.

Some Moldovan Trains

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

aaaaa no that tony hawks book is awful.

ed: you so have to get that eurostar job.

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Doesn't Mario Bava's Black Sunday take place in Moldova?

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

ambrose you never responded to the steam trains on saturday idea ( will also involve watercress and maybe beer)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark, I think you need to go and have a lie down. In one afternoon you have slagged off Davina and Cameron, and praised Tony Hawks. YOU'RE NOT WELL.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

watercress and beer?
ed you hgave gone nuts. the idea = pretty good, but i cant do this weekend. is that what yr talking about yeh?

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet Gareth's never been to Dawlish.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

West Hatch Hotel, 34 Westcliff, Dawlish, EX7 9DN
Phone 01626 864211/862948
AA QQQQ selected and RAC Highly Acclaimed. 200 metres from the Town Centre this licensed hotel has thoughtfully equipped en-suite bedrooms. The breakfast menu is said to be excellent.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"I hear the breakfast menu at the West Hatch Hotel is excellent, Doreen."

"So they say, Harold."

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever. Even if you don't like it it's got lots of relevant cultural information. You can return to your cultural high ground now, Archie.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Being fond of Davina = cultural high ground? Blimey.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Summat about the texture of that picture makes those hoofprints look really small = Gareth is a tiny devil?

The West Hatch Hotel also fail to mention that it's 200 metres from the town centre up a fucking steep hill and that it's also on a nasty fume-y main road. Holiday brochures, eh?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't Moldova pretty much like Romania, only with lots of Russians?

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah but with like 1000% less money. which is saying something.

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been to Romania. It was ace, for the most part. I gather Moldova's similar but even more chaotic.

Tag (Tag), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Or, Rachel, you can respond to what you know I meant re: your belittling of low-culture literature.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I am NOT belittling 'low-culture literature'! I am not a Tony Hawks fan because he's annoying and not funny.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I got some Moldovan stamps the other day. They're pretty. Even if it looks like Vlad The Impaler on them!

kate (kate), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Tony Hawks = Morris Minor and the Majors = arse

chris (chris), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)
