when was it cool again and is it still ?
there was a pic of joe strummer wearing one on
the last page of this year's glastonbury 2003
brochure and *man* did he loook good.

i'm thinking of rockin that exact look for the rest
of summer - cowboy hat and sunglasses.

have i been stupid ?

piscesboy, Tuesday, 8 July 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That was my look last summer. Sans sunglasses. But if you are going to walk around England wearing a cowboy hat, you better damn well actually *be* American. If I had a dime for every time I got silly comments shouted at me, I'd be able to pay for planefare to go to Texas...

On the way home from Wiltshire, we passed a "Country Music Festival". It was bizarre to see these suburban English types swanning about in perfect cowboy hat/waistcoat/bolero tie type outfits. Though I got very very upset by all the Confederate Flags being flown in total ignorance.

kate (kate), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah but Joe Strummer, look at him now, eh?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

joe's was made of straw.
see ? a straw cowboy hat.

actually what's the right term is it ?
it's not 'cowboy hat' is it ?
what is it ?

piscesboy, Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

My brother has been rockign the cowboy hat for the past 10 years. I wish he would stop.

Whatever you do do not wear a leopard print one, a pink one or and fuzzy version.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, but only if yer a dandy warhols groupie.

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

HEY!!! They are my groupies. They turn up backstage at my concerts, I don't bother going backstage at theirs. Humph!

kate (kate), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot about Troy's love of cowboy hat.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

easy tiger! i prefer pork pie hats myself but whatever scoots ya boot. just as long as you don't adopt the knee high ugh boot fashion that gripped melbourne two years back! bloody eskimo emulating hipsters.

*gnashes teeth*

(on time for work this morning kate?)

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, hold out your hand while we slap you on the wrist for saying eskimo.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

You can only wear a cowboy hat if you wear an truckers hat underneath it. Fer Real.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

no, you can still wear a cowboy hat if you wear nothing else.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't remember the cowboy hat and fishnets thread last autumn?

kate (kate), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It's only okay to wear a cowboy hat if you're a stripper in Atlanta.

I see Atlanta's strip club scene has really gone downhill since I was last there.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Cowboy hats are always in style. Just make sure it's a real one and not one bought at Urban Outfitters or something.

see? always stylish . . .

minna (minna), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i was gonna post a whole heap more molly pics but you get the idea: it doesnt really matter when you start wearing a cowboy hat (that kid looks great for example - awesome photo too) but the danger is always there that once you do start you'll never ever be able to stop

minna (minna), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Who's Molly? And what's wrong with always wearing cowboy hats? Maybe it's the Jett Rink thing but the right guy in the right kind of hat makes me heart stop in it's tracks. ROWR.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i own a cowboy hat, but had never worn it until two weekends ago. then i rode around in a white van with it on while moving house the other day rather than having to pack it. i forgot i had it on when i dropped into a jamaican bakery in dalston to grab something to eat. it was only as people began staring at me that i realised i was still sporting the aforementioned item of stupid headgear. i looked into a mirror behing the counter and realised what a total wanker i looked and quickly removed it. for ornamental purposes only as of now.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

cowboy hats = okay for cowboys, bad for everyone else

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

ian 'molly' meldrum = australian tv personality, originally host of countdown (the aus answer to top of the pops), currently owns a nightclub (but there is so so much more to molly than that!)

nothing wrong with wearing a cowboy hat, ddg, esp not if you are a cowboy! i'm just warning of its addictive powers.

oh my god. Just got from seeing the digital, theatrical rerelease of my all time favorite movie. Ladies and gentleman this is an example of the cowboy hat as sex on a stick:

If I *ever* meet a man that looks this good my head will explode.
