By 2007, if you are serving on any of the seven Marine Expeditionary Units, the Gladiator will pave your way toward a new era of war fighting. Service members, civilians and local media got a preview of the capabilities of the Gladiator Tactical Unmanned Ground Vehicle during non-lethal employment demonstration at Smith Field here Wednesday.

The Gladiator is loaded with all sorts of gadgets and weaponry, including day and night cameras, a chemical detection system, Light Vehicle Obscuration Smoke System, and is mounted with either M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, the M240G Medium Machine Gun, 9 mm Uzi or an Anti-Personnel/Obstacle Breaching System (APOBS).

Remember that after the revolution, those that are remembered for their efficiency will be spared.

Dale the Merciless (cprek), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It's about time we named Millar Tactical Commander of ILX so we can get some of these things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Light Vehicle Obscuration Smoke System

Fog machine... just say fog machine..

Dale the Merciless (cprek), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

If only they would fix it up to resemble a member of Duran Duran, and then I could welcome it with open arms.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

RoboTaylor

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ew, no "A.I." pr0n, please.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Bring it on!

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, more "Bring It On" pr0n, please!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

If only they would fix it up to resemble a member of Duran Duran

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

During military operations other than war, such as humanitarian aide and peacekeeping, the Gladiator has the potential to perform the duties of an entire rifle company, nearly 160 Marines, said Grundy.

ie It's food-packet-to-oopsy-bomb ratio isn't tainted by "the human element".

(great thread title btw dawg)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The military would prefer a Duran Duran bot that couldn't be shattered with a whiffle bat...

Dale the Merciless (cprek), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

...and knows the words to Union of the Snake. Can Legobot do that? I think not.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lego Band played music that sonded like Human League minus the girl plus extra Kraftwerk and a weird "Dream Police" break. I think they could handle Union of the Snake.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Nicole's curious bigotry towards Lego is saddening.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: Legobot vs Legolas

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah well, now we have a true challenge.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Robot elf pr0n?

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

NOW WE'RE TALKING

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Why are those things called Gladiator if they can't wield swords?

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Robot pr0n
Elf pr0n

But everyone is too scared to combine the two.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

But they're like chocolate and peanut butter!

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, I know. The first link is kind of crappy, btw.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on - I've just remembered that chocolate and peanut butter is disgusting.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

DEMON. He kills you now.

http://www.hersheys.com/about/img/reese.jpg

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

What is it with these bizarre "people" who hate Reeses?

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually it occurs to me that the truly disturbing thing about the Reese's figure is that it implies he/she/it is made of pink peanut butter inside.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, you are a disgusting perv.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

A shit yellow mouth would be too close to the truth.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

And I'M the perv?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

We are all pink on the inside...

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

And I'M the perv?

Yep.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ain't no shame in it. < /Will Smith>

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I often think of Ned as the Will Smith of ILE.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but Fresh Prince, Six Degrees of Separation or Wild Wild West?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Bad Boys

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett IS Ali!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I come back expecting robot destruction and instead get Reese's Peanut Butter man and Will Smith. ILE in thread derailment shockah.

Dale the Merciless (cprek), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

What is it with these bizarre "people" who hate Reeses?

I think the title of this thread is awful.

Here's a meme to compensate:

We have a correction. It appears the assumption that all black people are robots was made in error. The correct logic applied reveals that in fact all robots are black people. Please revise your corollaries as necessary.

Those things aren't for real are they!?! I saw one of their commercials and was certain that it was simply a movie preview!

Dale the Titled (cprek), Thursday, 8 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't resist the nickalicious weed jokes, I'm sorry. I'm going to hell you know. Haha I had this great conversation yesterday, my friend Craig and I were at lunch and for some reason we were talking about my friend Jus. She has this habit of freaking out whenever a beer goes slightly above ice cold temperatures. Like it'll still be cold but there will be no frost on the bottle and she'll be like, "My god this beer is so hot! Let me get you another one!" The woman wastes GALLONS of beer a year, honestly. So suddenly Craig goes, "I dunno what she's so worried about anyway. You, me, her, we all have to get used to this warm beer shit, cos that's how they serve them in hell."

Also we're all robots, to bring it back to the subject at hand.

Robot soldiers' bound for Iraq
Last Updated: Sunday, 23 January, 2005, 16:45 GMT

The US military is planning to deploy robots armed with machine-guns to wage war against insurgents in Iraq.

Eighteen of the 1m-high robots, equipped with cameras and operated by remote control, are going to Iraq this spring, the Associated Press reports...

[...]

The robot fighter has been christened Swords, after the acronym for Special Weapons Observation Reconnaissance Detection Systems...
