JasonD (JasonD), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm assuming that's a "thumbs up" in re: this product....

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

possibly the most important advance in the culinary arts ever.

ryan (ryan), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I never get up early enough to eat breakfast at Mickey D's :(

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to have to try this, then.

What the heck, we've got plenty of McDonald's in this area. We need another one like we need a proverbial hole in our heads.

That Girl... aw. That's too bad.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Solution: breakfast needs to be extended till at least 2pm. I mean, 10:30 am? WTF?

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

*laugh* Or maybe they need to do what Sonic and my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant chain, Las Palapas, do, which is serve breakfast all day long.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

breakfast at mcdonald eaauurghh

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

tiffany is turning in her gracve

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.mcdonalds.com/countries/usa/whatsnew/mcgriddles/img/mcgriddles.jpg

the mcdonald's across the street from my office has these things ... with maple syrup baked into them! ... and i've been so curious.

i still love my egg mcmuffins though.

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't get the ad campaign. . .Bizzare but good?

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

someone in corporate hq was all 'it'll never play in peoria' and marketing decided to make that 'work' for them.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:25 (twenty-two years ago)

a la Arby's "Different is Good"

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

that said a Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddle is good stuff if not the easiest thing to eat while you're driving.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm gonna get one of these things this morning on the way into work ... i am curious now!

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:28 (twenty-two years ago)

My best friend in 6th grade was from Peoria. Whenever I hear the term "whitebread" I think of her - - even though she was half-Vietnamese.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

syrup _in_ the bun?!

the future is now.

ben welsh (benwelsh), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, the whole McGriddle concept *is* bizarre. The "good" part I have yet to determine for myself.

Do you think they'd let me have one without cheese? I would absolutely hate to have one with cheese. Cheese has ruined many a breakfast for me.

And I love Arby's. Their salads rock. Mmm.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time I had a McDo's breakfast was a very unplesant morning--shortly after eating it I realized I had gone to the wrong movie theatre (the screening I was going to was across town) & I had to jump in a cab and run to make it. In all my hurry I forgot the semi-expensive pair of headphones I had bought the week before in the cab. The movie sucked. And later I went back to the cab stand & waited around for an hour, hoping the driver would return. He never did.

It's all McDonalds' fault.

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm kinda thinking now that syrup and sausage -- or syrup and bacon ... are kind of gross taste combos. anyone who's eaten these things ... is it just a maple taste, or is it dripping with maple syrup?

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck no, it's not gross.

i love combining the sweet and savory on the breakfast plate.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't tasted these things but maple syrup + any kind of breakfast product = good.

so says the canadian

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

no the syrup is 'baked in' (ha), ie. it's not gooey (although vaguely moist). it's sorta of a Sonic's ripoff to be honest.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i always pour syrup on my sausage or bacon (even though i rarely eat those meats). so the taste combo is perfect for me.

the bun not only has the flavor of syrup baked in, it has pockets of liquidy syrup. it's kinda greasy and yes it's hard to eat in the car.

and fuck mcDonalds for not serving breakfast earlier. i never (even during the week) wake up before 10 or 10.30

JasonD (JasonD), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

they have them without cheese (just sausage and pancake), but it sorta negates the 'rush' of eating a McGriddle ie. taking an entire McDonalds Breakfast Platter, scrunching it into a ball, and shoving it into your face.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I also can't believe they stop serving breakfast at 10:30! WTF?!!!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

you can get a pork roll/bacon egg and cheese any time you want, though. that's a breakfast-y meal. just not at mcdonald's.

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Sonic's serves breakfast 24-7 - rip that off whydoncha Mickey D's!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

and of course in the south we have the cathedrals known as Waffle House

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I live next door to a McDonald's, a strip club, and a liquor store that specializes in those airplane-sized dollar bottles. I mean -- ahh, fuck off -- the ones sized like you get on airplanes, not the size of airplanes.

I'm used to getting up at 10-11, but have 8am classes, which has meant more than a few "oh hell, forgot to eat, and I need a coffee while I'm at it" stopovers at McDonald's on the way to campus. The sausage McGriddle is actually pretty damn good. I haven't attempted any of the ones with egg or cheese yet ... which means the McGriddle I've been having is actually pretty boring and mundane, cause shit, it's not that much different from a flapjack on a stick. Without a stick.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah but Sonic breakfast blows. I totally heart Sonic. But not the breakfast. I'd rather have a burger at nine than their breakfast menu.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

so wait, is sonics like 7-11 or more like a fast-food joint that just happens to be open 24/7?

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

haha - I've never actually had the Sonic breakfasts, I've just seen it on the sign. I'm such a poseur!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

it's open till only about 10:30 pm. I know this b/c I live next door to one and am addicted to their Iced Tea. And the summer giveaway game they have at the moment.

It's an old-fashioned carhop except they don't wear skates. which kinda sucks actually. :(

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

haha - one of the carhops at the Sonics in Athens does wear shorts and rolerskates. one of the male carhops.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

awesome!!

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

A bunch of them in New Orleans wear skates, but not here in Bloomington.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, the hood rats in East Dallas ain't wearin' no damn skates. They act as if yr fucking lucky their servin yr damn ass. . .

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Im not a fan of liquid egg, and the fake maple syrup gets all over ones hands/keyboard. I'll stick to the McMuffin to solve my hangover tummy needs.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Please tell me they don't actually have the arches cooked onto the surface.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

This is what Ronald McDonald calls his nuts. McGriddles

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

you can get a pork roll/bacon egg and cheese any time you want, though.

"Pork Roll Egg & Cheese" - Ween, The Pod!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I tried this out of curiousity, and was apalled. The eggs taste like syrup, not eggs. The cheese also tastes like syrup. The bacon/sausage tastes like syrup. The pancake parts taste like syrup. Literally ALL YOU CAN TASTE IS SYRUP. Next time I want that experience I'll just go get a bottle of syrup and pour it straight down my throat.

(Note this is not some Mickey D's prejudice, I just finished eating two breakfast burritos, and they were truly fine.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

they really should rename this product 'American Death'

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure they give people the ol' McShits.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I chickened out of ordering a McGriddles today. I got my usual at McDonald's, i.e. the two apple pies for $1. Scarfed 'em down. Was unusually famished.

And yes, I did see the plain sausage McGriddle, but that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about the one with sausage AND egg. Maybe someday, if I'm feeling adventurous enough, I'll try one of those out. Hm.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

See, I'd like the McGriddle if the sausage tasted -more- like syrup. I'm not crazy about the McSausages, so that's the weak link for me.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The thought of syrup with anything savoury makes me feel ill, let alone syrup all over your breakfast. Spew!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

That was the one good thing about New England, though! (Other than Moxie. Which is arguably little different from "syrup with something savory.") It works best with things that are savory and salty, like cured meat. Maple syrup on a steak or a burrito = not so great.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Next time I want that experience I'll just go get a bottle of syrup and pour it straight down my throat.

...and that would make you one of the stars of Broken Lizard's Super Troopers!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Maple syrup on a steak is one part of your complete breakfast, if you ordered steak and eggs for breakfast.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

some lemon meringue pie with that sar?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

(Other than Moxie. Which is arguably little different from "syrup with something savory.")

Since when is tar savory?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

(Oh hush, you knew it was coming).

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Next time I want that experience I'll just go get a bottle of syrup and pour it straight down my throat.

I thought this was what Canadians do anyway?

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Precisely, which is why I don't need McGriddles!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I just don't like breakfast food that much - I'd rather have a cheeseburger if I'm going all the way to McDonald's.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

when reading this thread all i could imagine is when they were burying homer in that piano crate..."i never should have let him eat all that fried cheese..."

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Homer: Dear lord, as I think of you dressed in white with your splendid beard, I am reminded of Colonel Sanders, who is now seated at your right hand, shovening popcorn chicken into thy mouth. Lord, could you come up with a delicious news taste treat like he did? I command you.

[Homer closes his eyes and claps his hands, and his car swerves into oncoming traffic. A hot fudge truck overturns, flooding the road, and then a Johnny Bench's Pre-cooked Bacon truck smashes into it. A piece of fudge-coated bacon lands on Homer's windshield, and he grabs it and takes a bite.]

Homer: Mmmm. Move over, eggs. Bacon just got a new best friend — fudge.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

I had an epic dream last night about trying to force my grandma to eat McGriddles.

Abbott, Monday, 16 June 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

no you didnt

jeff, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

Do not attempt to dash dreams that are real? I was trying to stuff it full of scrambled eggs to increase its appeal and I got them all over me, to my grandma's disapproval.

Abbott, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

US comedian Doug Benson has a fucking hilarious bit about McGriddles, and holy shit it's on the web!

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=4333051

BATTAGS, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

I found myself feeling personally insulted after eating my first and only McGriddle

sunny successor, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

i still have yet to try it, even though there is a mcdonald's directly next door to my workplace, basically because i can't be bothered to show up at work before 10.30.

BATTAGS, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

I think they are a curious little taste treat.

Abbott, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)

you will love that comedy bit, if you haven't heard it already...

BATTAGS, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:50 (seventeen years ago)
