Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

And guess who COMMISSIONED the story? A goddamn PLOT!

(Er, I'll be having a review run next week there myself.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

nice job jess and db! i sent this article to all my friends!

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm famous too, but I'm not telling where.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ATTN MATOS/RAGGETT/HARVELL: plz pimp out my brother's group on the West Coast thx in advance.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That actually is a damn good idea! Are they going to be touring out here? If they played the LA area I could try for something in the weeklies here while Jess took care of Seattle...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if the logistics of getting their band out to the West Coast have been fully thought through. They're interested, though.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Must... not.... beg...

Congrats, db! You do a mighty meaty mash-up!

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Lockarm notes there's been some interest from major labels in the U.S. in the wake of bootleg fever. Still, he says, 'Mash-ups haven't really cracked the U.S. mainstream yet. It's entirely possible they could break any time between now and, oh, six years. But even if they follow through, I doubt they will be as spontaneous, ribald, or bizarre as the ones [from] the past year.'"

Indeed. A few weeks ago I heard a mash-up of Phil Collins' and Mariah Carey's versions of "Against All Odds" on one of the top Lite FM stations here in NYC, and it was as obvious and leaden as you'd imagine. I have no idea where it came from, though. I haven't found any mentions in the media or the web about such a beast, so I have to assume this is entirely the creation of some lone nutter at the radio station.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

shit you guys, pimp me out!

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

June 18, 2033. Secretary of State J0hn Darn!3lle told papers President Tep would be meeting with the Palestinian Prime Minister "within the next two weeks" to discuss the in-progress Israeli drawback to pre-2014 borders. In an exclusive interview with the Washington Post's Ned Raggett, Darn!3lle expressed optimism concerning the proceedings, while assuring the public that domestic scandals in the energy sector -- currently being examined by an administration committee including Energy Secretary Nicole W!!!37, the EPA's Chris Piuma, and Secretary of Labor Jody Beth Rosen -- would not be relegated to second priority, saying "This administration doesn't even have a back burner." Darn!3lle's optimism concerning the upcoming peace negotiations was undercut by expatriate British journalist Momus Currie-Hitchens, who noted with some suspicion the scheduled presence of CIA director T0m Mill4r at the meetings.

British Prime Minister Stevem Blueski expressed his full support for the negotiations, praising former British U.N. Envoy Martin Skidmore for having laid important groundwork in the resumption of the peace process.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my goodness! I read the article, went to www.LanceLockarm.com, followed some links & started downloading, and now my office is much more dancy! I've heard bits of this style -- the Nirvana "Smells Like Electro" thing on KEXP, for one -- but WHOOOOOO! This is FUN! Thanks for the heads-up! Now I feel like I'm all hip with the young people & their music.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, congrats to him. No one deserves it more!
