Right. The inestimable Chaki is putting on a rock show on July 12th at Zen Sushi. Therefore, those of who can should be there. This is the thread to discuss plans and figure out what the hell we are doing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to go. :(

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Are the majority of attendees in O.C. or here in L.A.? (thinking about logistics)

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

LA. I'm taking the train up, probably crashing with my cousin.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be there in spirits

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

A public service announcement:

Zen Sushi
2609 Hyperion Avenue
Silverlake (Los Angeles)
323-665-2929

Zen Sushi serves mainly sushi and Japanese cuisine, such as tempura, teriyaki, sashimi, sesame chicken, udon and sukiyaki. But there's a little something on the menu to please nearly everyone's palate, including vegetarian dinners, fresh fish and, for meat-lovers, an 18-ounce emperor steak or more petite Emperor's Daughter. All dinners come with complimentary rice, miso soup and salad. The sushi bar offers all the usual suspects, along with delicious daily specials like oyster shooters or baked green mussels.

A wood burning grill, sushi bar, full service bar, outdoor smoking patio and three traditionally decorated dining rooms, including secluded dining areas with upholstered benches, silk-lined walls, pillows, dim lights and candlelight, make meals all the more relaxing. leave.

Zen Sushi serves dinner from 5-11 p.m. nightly. The bar stays open until 2 a.m., offering tropical drinks, special plum wine and a wide selection of flavored sakes, along with beer, wine and cocktails. Dinners start around $10 for a la carte and $13 for combination plates.

Zen Sushi is located at 2609 Hyperion Avenue, about a half block west of Griffith Park Boulevard. Neighborhood street parking is available [hah!]. For more information, please call 323-665-2929 or 323-665-2930.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Chaki says he's going on at LA. I have to be at an art opening before then, but it's not far, so I'll 80% be able to make it.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Going on at LA?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

im playing upstairs in the lounge at 11. ill be eating downstairs around 8 or 9. my childhood pal logreybeam (m3rck records artist) is playin after. he's sick dsp wankage i love it. it was a last minute booking so we're playing with "proper", coffee house techno acts with names like "the la drum and bass project" (!) they dont know what they're in for

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer, are you going to the exhibition at General Lee?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

nope, opening in Chinatown, a close friend has a piece in a group show.

Also, I was trying to say 11 and somehow wrote LA... which is kinda funny actually.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

at a place called 'The Mountain'

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait! It IS the same place!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my friends has got a thing there, too.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

A conspiracy. Hm. Maybe we should try for both!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I think there's some kind of Absolut art-fest in Chinatown this weekend. Is it part of that?

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. 7-12pm along Chung King road and some other hot spots. If you're in LA, I highly recommend this. Great art (like, really good), free booze, music, interesting and/or beautiful people. Low pretense factor, etc.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm...expect a phone call from me tonight, Spencer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I may try to do both, but I imaging parking will be even worse in Chinatown. If it were two weeks later I could take the Gold line!

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

is arthur going to be around for any of this? maybe i should call him since i wanted to go w/ him, or else i'll bring my friend caroline who is moving out of town soon -> just to show her that leaving LA will be the decision she most regrets for the rest of her sorry life

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 10 July 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to go. :(

-- That Girl (dallasdeadgir...), July 9th, 2003.

birdo heado, Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, revival on the day -- I'm still trying to figure out what's up for the evening here...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 July 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Bump for the out-of-the-loop guy.

Are there plans to meet anywhere or should I just show up in Chinatown and wander around? Are people eating at Zen Sushi or just going to the show? Is it too late to be asking these questions?

Wow, x-post after two days. What's up?

nickn (nickn), Saturday, 12 July 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

And yes, I spent 27 minutes composing those 5 lines.

nickn (nickn), Saturday, 12 July 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

not everyone is eating at zen. only me i think.

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now it seems like a passel of folks will be doing the art thing and then heading over to the show. Apparently no food at said art thing, so I'm thinking maybe we meet up for dinner beforehand?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

damn i wanna be there. chaki can ya bootleg it?

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

There will be grazing opportunities there, according to the site.

art fest

nickn (nickn), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah well, grazing is indeed good.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i was hijacked at the bonaventure - hope y'all had a good time.....

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 13 July 2003 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I just tripped over my dog going down the front steps, so I'm stayin at home tonight with ice and Captain Darvocet. Hope y'all are having fun.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 13 July 2003 04:07 (twenty-two years ago)

(Insert *and twisted my bad knee)

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 13 July 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry I had to lame out guys... I was unfortunately otherwise preoccupied... I'll get a round next time.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 13 July 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

punk! jk! im sorry i could make it to ihop i shouldve went with you guys!

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 13 July 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, we tried to stop by Zen at around 12:30, but we got totally lost....

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 13 July 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

As ever, I'm sorry I missed it. I got in the car after I talked to Ned and tried to do it, but it hurt and I had to hop my ass back into the house.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 13 July 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! I'm lame, too! Next time, I guess. Hope the show went well, Chaki.

Arthur (Arthur), Sunday, 13 July 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Lame. Tsk Tsk Tsk. Broken knees, Bonaventure kidnappings, Art-gallery abduction, ufo-related luxury : NO EXCUSES.

To those of you you whodidn't make Zen: you missed Chaki covering Prince through a MEGAPHONE.

To those of you who missed Ihop: you missed Terence Trent D'arby asking ME for fashion advice.

And now: you are missing breakfast with me, Ned, VH1 Classics and Sebastian Bach

Tsk, tsk, tsk

Vic, Sunday, 13 July 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

abduction, ufo-related luxury -> haha absductionS, luxury-VACATIONS i meant...

seriously, ya'll missed out! but next FAP, right? luna i hope your knee feels better soon, so you can get your high-NRG aerobics routine (?) in full swing again

spencer the only reason i didn't get lost was because ned played navigator for me.

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 13 July 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and you missed the boat-in-a-basement-let's-pretend-the-blue-lighting-creates-the-ambience-of-water-flowing exhibit that nickn and I found fascinating in Chinatown at the art galleries, since we had to descend through a secret passage to get to it.

spencer did you ever find it ????????????

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 13 July 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend was not ready to leave until about 10 so we missed the whole thing!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 13 July 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

That sucks, we were talking about how you would have really liked some of the design stuff in there!

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 13 July 2003 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG Ned-Vic-Sebastian three-way shockah!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 13 July 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Bach was a perfect gentleman.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 July 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I met him once, and let me tell you, he was no gentleman. Something doesn't seem right here, Ned...

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 13 July 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, all he did today was look pained and soulful and sing about that young boy in prison, and that was very gentlemanly.

(IRL I would certainly believe he is the Prick of Pricks, if the various stories on Metal Sludge are any indication.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 July 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmhmm.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 13 July 2003 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, I sense doubt! I can't help it if your mind is fogged from painkillers thanks to dog-tripping.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 July 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

No no, I believe you.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 13 July 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Then all is well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 July 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

To those of you who missed Ihop: you missed Terence Trent D'arby asking ME for fashion advice.

Details!

Lars (Nicole), Monday, 14 July 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it might not have been him...but the dreads were in full effect.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 July 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a great time but managed to get two flat tires that night - thereby requiring driving home to Pasadena on a flat temporary wheel. It was already ruined from a pothole so I figured it was the best course of action. And I managed to not being able to get onto Fountain from Hyperion for about 20 minutes, I was convinced I was pointing in the opposite direction.

nickn (nickn), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, nick's flat tire problem was not cool, as was my own eh, car problem.

Well, it might not have been him...but the dreads were in full effect.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), July 14th, 2003.

it most definitely WAS him; he was surrounded by two groupies in semi-formal wear! don't ask Ned, he was urinating at the time; ask nick.

Vic (Vic), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It was really him? I only saw him briefly, I thought you were joking!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw him but thought you were joking. It did look a bit like him as I remembered him, but that was many years ago, he's got to look older now. Also, I didn't notice a raspy voice. Also, TTD'A at IHOP at 2-3 AM? The accompanying women did make me think he was "somebody" (I hope that doesn't sound sexist, he seemed clearly the center of the trio).

I bought a new tire today, and will get three more next week when they're in stock. The ones I had were at least ten years old.

nickn (nickn), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:31 (twenty-two years ago)

even if it wasn't really-really him, that was probably still the closest i'll ever get to TTD'A asking me if he "look like Grover?" (that's honestly what he asked...."do i...) this decade or something, so let me be content w/ my faux-celeb Ihop memories!

I bought a new tire today

That's a very-good-thing, since all the potholes probably didn't get fixed today. Just a wild guess.

Vic (Vic), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Well - did he?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I'm not telling since U didn't come :P

Next time, Luna. Maybe if you make it, we'll stay at the Sunset Ihop until 4 just to see if we can see him Seal; if not, we'll hit the Santa Monica Ihop and maybe run into them there..

Forget the Sky Bar. IHOP 4-Evah. They're the best after-hours destinations since what else is *guaranteeed* to be open all the time?! (Denny's and WeHo sex clubs do NOT count). ihop Ihop IHOP!!

Vic (Vic), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

But.. I must know!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I loved the Jesus Christ Superstar cover you did, Chaki. Don't know the name of the song, but it's the one from that movie I've always liked most.
