I haven't for years, but now I am missing the party days...

(previously accidentally posted on ILM -- please delete that one somebody)

All of a sudden, thanks to the mixtape thread and Ungle Wiggly on ILM, I started remembering a "House of Love Party" in Port Chester w/ Alice Donut and Blonde Redhead, an acid party in a loftspace (The Loft) also in Port Chester featuring bands and a whole night I can't remember... and... rooftop parties in NYC, odd holes in the wall in Brooklyn, art after dark parties in the X-lab and trips to the abandoned insane Asylum on the hill on major drugs at midnight. Stumbling slobbering drunk around places I was totally unfamiliar without a care in the world.

>sigh< I feel like George Castanza when he said, "College was fun, remember college? Those were fun times." I spent a few years after college basically trying to do the same thing, but without a college I.D. (or the undeniable presence of a college kid), it's just not the same for you or the people you meet. It's like being in college makes your actions both excusable and more attractive for some reason.

I don't even really like going out any more and yet I miss it. I guess I miss the "fun" rather than the phony, but as you get older, it seems like "making the scene" is more important than "having fun" to a lot of people (or something).

Anyway, who's seeing Fountains of Wayne tomorrow? Anyone? I'll be having fun, I'll tell you!

How has the party scene treated you over the years?
Isn't Party Scene a great name for a band? No? Ok.

Scaredy Cat isn't this the second time you've accidently posted a thread on ILM? Get with the program man!

Never have I done such a thing.

Not even in your crazy college days?

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 10 July 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't knw ILx existed back then... did it? College days weren't crazy, btw. They were surely more sane than the rest of life will pan out to be.

Did you not do the Mosquito thread? (too lazy to go look)

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 10 July 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i think you miss being young more than the 'trips to the abandoned insane Asylum on the hill on major drugs at midnight'(i miss this also)primarily you miss the sense of being invincible, & in a way at the time, you were immortal. the catch is invincible becomes '0ld' fast, & in more ways than one.

Mosquito? Is it about mosquitos? I have no idea or recollection of that, but I'm sure I've posted on the wrong board before. I will go search "mosquito" now. It would be interesting if I had made a thread about mosquitos...

Uhh, yeah, it was Scaredy cat who did that! Cut it out man!

I knew someone here must have gone to Poor Choice! I think you're right about the invincible idea... I have to think about that. Emotions are strange things.

What?! That must have been the other s1utsky.

back on topic; I think this is a good one. I was too skeerd of losing my scholarship to party in college, but there is a certain amount of club-going/scenemaking that I miss now that I have to get up at four in the morning every day. There was an awful lot of drama that I don't necessarily miss though.

I flunked out of college for partying and $$. My party years were crazy, real crazy. It got to the point when I looked like walking death, that I slowed it down. Now at 28, its gotten just as bad. Seems to be that way with all my friends. As we all settled down and started "real" life (families, homes.....)we are reliving the old days. Minus the drugs.
