I was evicted from a flat once so they could film a Mike Leigh movie there. ('Working Girls', it's near Camden Road overground station.) And did the socially-conscious Mr. Leigh compensate me? Did he fuck. Asshole.

Meant 'Career Girls', sorry

I used to see Mike Leigh doing his shopping in the Palmers Green Safeways. He was buying enough grub to feed a small film crew. (Ah, Palmers Green - Nicola Barker wrote a bk set there, and Steve Smith was a resident...)

Back to yr regularly scheduled thread...

I interviewed Mike Leigh for a film magazine. My first ever interview, and my tape recorder broke and I had to resort to scribbling frantically in front of him. How embarrassing. He was quite happy to talk about his movie ('Topsy Turvy') but he was certainly a defensive character, quite difficult. Especially as I had only given it two stars the week before.

Used to find crews outside an old apartment of mine all the time. It was in a designated historic area near Toronto that seemed to be popular for commercials and TV movies. One was a Lotto 649 spot that had a rollerblading girl winding through it. Being middle of November and she was in spandex, it couldnt have been much fun.

So if you've watched bad tv movies you might have seen me and my brothers walk across camera in a number of them. I'll do anything for free food it seems. Though I did learn that if you look like you are meant to be there, no one will kick you out of the important people lunch area where the food is why better then the ham and cheese crap (if that) they give extras.

Mike Leigh: one of two Film Greats I have physically walked INTO thru inattention to the pavement ahead. Other = ARNIE!!

I once pissed in the stall next to Sean Connery and (15 yrs later) very very very nearly ran him over in the Fulham Road.

00Sinker - licensed to very very very nearly kill.

Is Arnie a titch Mark?

Andrew L, Wednesday, 19 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He is taller than Leigh, but I think if it had come to combat I wd have been runner-up, if that.

I think Andrew thought you might have seen him at the stalls and was wondering about titchiness there.
