July 10, 2003 -- IT was a modern-day Stripperella tale come true at Scores the other night when a dancer named Nadia got a marriage proposal from a multimillionaire customer. An international securities trader known as Mr. Jerome had been a loyal fan of the petite, 21-year-old blonde for several weeks, spending hours with her every time he visited. On Tuesday, after tipping $1,000 each to a DJ to stop the music and to a manager to let him on stage, he popped the question in front of 500 startled customers, including several off-duty Mets and Atlanta Braves. "Hang up your gown, baby," Jerome said, "You'll never have to work again." A thrilled Nadia accepted his proposal - and a pair of Cartier diamond bracelets that would make Lil' Kim blush. Jerome celebrated by spending $50,000 on champagne and caviar for everyone in the club. "It's every stripper's dream come true," a moist-eyed Scores staffer told us. The happy couple flew to Nadia's native Romania yesterday to break the news to her mom.

Romania, when I went, was chaotic, on the verge of falling to pieces.
Bucharest is yr typical Eastern Bloc city, full of brutalist concrete high rises. Parts of the city centre are almost Parisian with big wide boulevards and even an Arc de Triomphe, but the roads are full of ruts.
Transyllvania is beautiful, green, hilly and fertile, full of antiquated farming and "peasants" who gawp disarmingly at you as you walk past but almost give you a friendly hello if you do.
You can't sit in one place for five minutes without having your heart broken by begging orphan children.
Trains never run on time and are cancelled without warning. AVOID PUBLIC TOILETS at all costs. Food and drink is ludicrously cheap.
I travelled on a packed bus for half an hour hanging for dear life out of the passenger door, watching the road speed beneath me at 50 mph along twisting Carpathian mountain roads. I also came perilously close to having my arm snapped off by the closing door of a trolley bus in Brasov.
Sadly we missed out the huge picture of Ceaucescu that had adorned an entire wall of the Red Snake Bar up until 2 weeks before our visit.
One of the best holidays of my life.
