They were possibly giant processional paths - if you look they're often drawn with a single continuous line, so you could walk all the way along the outline if you wanted.
(Processional mazes were also traditionally very popular in European history, in both pagan and Christian contexts. In Britain they're usually called 'Troy towns'.)

So the hole is for traction. The pads of your fingers sort of squish through and then you've got a good steady grip and ZIP ZIP ZOOP.

That's my favorite type-o I've ever made so far. I meant "I've never seen a zipper handle without a hole".

i've always been fascinated by the implications of what might happen if he was found...frankly they do not strike me as at all desirable potentially - a sense of justice being done would be compounded by a) endless arguments that no punishment is too harsh (with 'mere' execution failing to satisfy many people's desire for true atonement), b) his subsequent 'martyrdom' prompting further terrorist 'tribute'/revenge attacks, c) Al-Qaeda being debased/destabilised splitting up into smaller but more chaotic pieces probably just as hellbent on attacking their enemies as before
but that could just be incredibly pessimistic of me.

Because men are actually women for a large part of their fetal development and only veer into penile enlargement as an afterthought.
Basically, a fetus is prepared to swing both ways until the Y chromosome snaps into action. Hence, the rare, but real phenonomenon of hermaphrodites. Man titties are just deflated girl titties waiting forlornly for a pubescent tits-out signals that never arrives.
