Instantly a whole lot of things made sense -- the sidelong, knowing glances made by some friends to other friends while in his presence, the now-shocking questions people have asked him while pretending not to know (ie. "So, do you think you'll have any more children?"), his admission of a history of mental illness when we first met, the beautifully hand-written letter (on what appears to be discarded photocopies of religious tracts) half-pleading me to play at his birthday party that I had in my back pocket as the very words spilled out of T's mouth.
Shit ....... I feel really sad. Apparently he was mentally ill and distraught over a relationship and so he cut dem bwoys off during some sort of psychotic episode (unfortunately it occurred at his place of work).
I would have thought there would be more physiological signs, but he comes off as an eccentric but complete person. Who would have known?

Did he castrate himself before or while you knew him? I cannot comprehend why someone would want to remove those specific body parts, but there are contemporary accounts by eunuchs in which they claim that getting the operation eliminated something they felt was not right about their bodies. If this is the case, it might explain why he at first comes across as "eccentric but complete" (an interesting choice of word, BTW).
That said, I don't blame you if you feel weirded out by this person. Mental illness still can be frightening, and in this guy it manifested itself in a way that would spook most people.

No, he didn't castrate himself while I knew him. It was a few years ago and that's why it's mostly people I know in their early thirties who remember this first-hand. I have heard of some people (like you say) who feel "not right" about having testicles, but in his case the accounts I have heard describe a young man who was mentally ill and very distraught over a relationship. In this way, I don't think he may have lucidly intended to do it and wonder if (now that his illness is under control) what he feels about it.
I should clarify -- it's not like I don't want to hang out with him anymore, it's just that I don't think he knows that I know. It just makes me really sad.
That said, perhaps I am not correctly analyzing the psychology of a eunuch. I know that if someone cut off my balls today, tomorrow I would not know how to live because the idea of not being able to have sex at all would be pretty terrible. But perhaps this guy's hormonal equilibrium has shifted so far that he no longer is motivated by sex. That said, I consider him a very complete person. One day he gave me, my girlfriend, and her friend some shoulder massages. He's very good at it ... I think his sexuality comes out in a different, completely non-threatening way.
