"your political capital is the equivalent of confederate dollars" so, snubbing the NAACP when you're a Democrat in a tight primary race: smart or dumb?

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Mfume lashed out at the three during a speech to the thousands gathered for the NAACP's convention. Each time Mfume mentioned their name an organmaster played a death knell chord.

See, THAT'S the goofy part.

also, since none of these candidates has a hope in hell of winning south carolina now - who drops out first? (I think Lieberman - Kuchinich is clearly the new Alan Keyes: he ain't leaving til all the kegs are tapped).

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the organ things hilarious - like that inappropriate rimshot in the Chris Kattan Catskills sketch

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

haha - "declars" - Kweisi Mfume talks like Foghorn Leghorn

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

the thing about this is that it seems alot like the NAACP is trying to reinforce their influence by grandstanding - this is really kind of a ridiculous comment to make, considering. Does Mfume think that he needs to pull this kind of shit to make people recognize his power in Democratic circles? Maybe he does, I don't know. Still, it's nothing but sad. Hopefully the Dems can stop being so fractured by next November; otherwise we're fucked.

1972!!!

Millar (Millar), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

stop saying that Millar! (cuz I'm starting to buy it)

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think this is more Mfume's "do. not. fuck. with. me. ever." move. probably accomplished more than Sharpton's entire candidacy will.

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Please tell me that somebody, ANYBODY there laughed when the organmaster played his deathknell. Millar's thoroughly OTM.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Pathetic grandstanding.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, considering this in the context of those theater adverts they were running earlier this year, this is totally bogus. Mfume's got some weird ideas about winning friends and influencing people.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean I'm not rooting for any of those three, but Jesus.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not pathetic grandstanding if it works (it's just grandstanding)

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

kucinich said that he didn't attend so that he could vote. i presume that that's why gephardt and lieberman didn't attend, either?

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

gephardt had "family matters" (dude loves urkel) and lieberman was campaigning in new york

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Kucinic should be excused FOR DOING HIS JOB, fuck you Kweisi.
