Help me find a hat

I need a hat, not a cap or a trucker hat. Some kind of sun hat. But first of all someone needs to explain how to measure my enormous head and convert that measurement into hat size.

ILE, find me a hat.

Weave your dreadlocks into a basket and use that as a sun visor!

Hats are measured in quarter inches I believe. Measure your head with a tape measure, around the middle of the forehead with the tape touching the top of your ears.

Good god, no, that looks like the boater that Jesse inexplicably wore for the entire Lollies tour last year.

that's a boater

no one has answered my size question

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Archel did upthread.

OK, your hat is a Panama hat and not a Boater. Are you looking to buy some slave plantations and go into rum production?

― kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall be the man from delmonte. I shall say, 'No, you shall not earn your subsistence living this year'

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I fear that a hat of any description will look a bit silly atop Ed's lustrous locks.

― Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Lustrous? I'd say copious, but I'm not sure about the lustrous bit.

OK the circumference of my head is 69cm. This appears to be way off the scale of any hat size conversion chart.

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

suzy just measured it and got 73cm

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

up thread shouyld have read

OK, which pith helmet

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Why don't you go into a hat shop and ask them to measure you? Or try on a variety of hats until you find one that fits?

― Emma, Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

If you want a hat for practical reasons, ie keeping the sun off, why not go the full 19th-Century colonial hog and get a small Indian child to run behind you carrying a parasol?

― Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:31 (twenty-three years ago)

British Foreign Service-Zulu War. Definitely. For that natty neo-Imperialist look.

― kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I was going for the vietnam one but I think i'm going to come up against the 'rest of the worlds heads are far too small' problem.

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:34 (twenty-three years ago)

My head lies somewhere between 8 5/8 and 9 on the hat size scale. This is off the scale for most hats.

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

We shall now point, laugh and taunt you by calling you BIG HEAD ED!!!

― kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

but what of my fragile indie self esteem

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:42 (twenty-three years ago)

With your hair surely you are obliged to wear a black, green and red rasta hat? Or a visor, that solves the hat dilemma.

― Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 11:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I need a brim. I ain't wearing no tam.

― Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 11:10 (twenty-three years ago)
