I think it's classic as long as they don't make old ladies carrying grocery bags fall on their behind.

Most classic pice of urban climbing: ice climbing an icicle that spilled out of a down pipe on st pancras station some years back.

I made a little photo gallery on the subject at
http://www.hedonist-materialism.com/images/parkour/index.htm

I've taken these images from video on the soulseek p2p network, le-parkour.com, parkour.com, and urbanfreeflow.com.

Also known as Buildering in the UK. The sides of the old DoE building had some great traverses.

Totally classic! Great gallery too! It makes me feel very good to know I'm not the only freak out there on Earth climbing on random buildings and leaping over cars stopped in traffic and doing a balancing act down the rails of university staircases and such.

I definitely like how this isn't just some jackassery for a cheap laugh along the lines of MTV's Jackass or something, and is actually kinda bridging the gap between acts-of-athleticism and acts-of-expression, like a freeform sport-art or something.

Ed thank you for the reference on Buildering, I'm looking into it right now.

Well said. I'll add that it's all about freedom of the flesh.

I love it. Watch out for JUMP LONDON, on this Tuesday at 2200 (10 pm). I've seen its advert and it looks great!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 January 2008 03:15 (eighteen years ago)

so dumb. for people afraid of skateboards. it will HAVE to go away someday, right? see, now, if they were riding skateboards off of buildings then i might be interested.

scott seward, Monday, 14 January 2008 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

stevienixed, Monday, 14 January 2008 06:22 (eighteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Monday, 14 January 2008 08:16 (eighteen years ago)

it's become another action thing that extraordinary action-y people do. in movies, or whatever. at the beginning of pro evolution soccer 2008, the intro movie has soccer people doing tricks with soccer balls and then sort of casually parkouring around while kicking balls betweeen each other?? i almost didn't even notice what they were doing at first.

How funny this is revived, I had parkour anxiety dreams from about 3-5am. I was being chased and swinging/flying through the air and toeing off balconies and things. It's a lot less fun than you might think when you can't be sure you'll actually CATCH the next tree branch swinging your way. Ugh ugh chase dreams so gross, no more Aliens for me before bed.
