whenever I have a really bad hangover it seems to be really overcast outside, which makes my head hurt even more

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

will no one ease my pain with a kind word

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I am so sorry - my ability to tolerate hangovers is declining by the year, the last one was so so so awful. Get a nice warm shower, then several more.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you j0hn!

I'm trying to figure out if the 4am poutine was a good idea or not

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

For once on a Saturday I actually don't have one!! I feel great, too. Hey, there may be something to this abstinence stuff...

Yeah, as you get older, the hangovers definitely get worse. So if you're young, s1utsky, take solace it could be worse. My worse ones require like 12 hours of sleep/agony before I even have the energy to get out of bed. Pretty pathetic.

Anyway, water, water, water, Excedrin, hot shower, order a pizza, drink some more beer.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

what is this 'hangover' you speak of?

snotty weed smoker (Oops), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I've definitely noticed that my hangovers certainly haven't gotten better over the years--I wasn't even wildly drunk last night or anything, though I did drink a whole bunch of different kinds of things, which is always bad news.

(so why why why do I always do it?)

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

ow.

ow ow ow.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Drink water, take Excedrin and go back to sleep.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Pizza? Jesus if somebody even says pizza to me when I'm hung over it hurts me in my heart. Saltines, I say.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 19 July 2003 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I say peanut M&Ms! though the fuckers are taking their time kicking in!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Water while you're drinking. Bam, no more hangovers.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 19 July 2003 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Unusually high terror level in the face of humanity. In office on weekend; paralyzed by rage directed at chatty coworker who came in after me and turned on the lights. Building surrounded by tourists. Spinny head.

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Saturday, 19 July 2003 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yep, water while you drink, make sure you eat, too

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 20 July 2003 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

gatorade is hangover aide

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 20 July 2003 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I was hungover Friday and went out golfing at 9 a.m., about four hours after I went to bed.
It was hellish. Over 18 holes, I drank a couple bottles of water and a bottle of Gatorade, but I was still hurting.
Unsurprisingly, shot my worst round in years. Shot 24 strokes worse than last week when I played the course for the first time.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Sunday, 20 July 2003 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I found mself in similar trouble whilst attempting to perform myocardial surgery a mere twenty minutes after I'd gone to bed following a marathon three-week Benedictine binge. Needless to say I punched holes in the patient bigger than my goddamn fist! Shan't be doing that again. Neither will he. Ooof!

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 20 July 2003 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Water while you drink indeed! Last night I was drinking straight whiskey in a sweaty club. no wonder

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Why didn't I find this thread earlier, when I still had a hangover? Sigh.

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Just got through it myself. I feel for ya. The ambitions are breathing / keep breathing..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

if you are missing your hangover, i'll happily send mine over as a substitute.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I'll have one of these on Saturday morning, hooray, oh I mean boo.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I found a straw cannon in the laundry basket today. I was so pleased, I burnt it and drew a picture of some eggs with the ash.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The soup and tea have done nothing! I miss my bed.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

french fries and a valium are making it all better.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

So how hungover is Dan Perry this morning? ;-)

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea about Mr P, but I am completely incapable of coherent thought today.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

the key is:

1 tablet of vitamin b6 before drinking with a glass of water.
1 tablet of vitamin b6 in middle of drinking with glass of water.
1 tablet of vitamin b6 after drinking, before bed with one glass of water. works like a charm.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Expensive wine = no hangovers the next morning! Admittedly refusing to let other people near my whisky stash when back home could also have something to do with my merry state. However posh wine cannot be had all the time heigh ho bring back the Sarsons.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris I have a feeling that the answer is in "the glass of water" part rather than the vitamin tablet. Rather like my "GUARANTEED HANGOVER CURE" which involved drinking two pints of water before drinking, two pints after drinking and more when you woke up. HMM WHAT IS THIS MAGIC HANGOVER CURE I WONDER.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like shit on the bottom of a shoe. However i only had 4 beers last night. I think it's a week of only 4-5 hrs sleep a night catching up with me. Next period is my off period and I'm going to take a nap on my desk.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

An answer to Nicolars's question urgent and key.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

W.C. Fields was once asked if he took Alka Seltzer in the morning for his (famous) hangovers. He replied, no, can't stand the noise.

How I feel today.

Colin Saunders (csaunders), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I am feeling a lot of pain in my head and neck and eyeballs. Also in post-drinking state of depression, which delicious wonderful espresso is slowly fixing. For breakfast, a boiled egg and toast - when I can be bothered.

As well as the depression I have that giggly thing going on. I'm junk!

rainy (rainy), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

T-minus 6 hours and counting 'til hungover morning w/ mom & son & sister & etc...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Saturday, 25 October 2003 05:11 (twenty-one years ago)

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I should be hungover, but I feel great, what the shit? Maybe drinking Guiness last night as opposed to whatever-the-fuck-else I always end up drinking made the difference.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus, this morning i just wanted to not exist. worst. hangover. ever. note to self: following up lots of tequila with lots of vodka, don't do that.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, that sounds a bit like my Saturday-night recipe for Sunday hangover: start with shitty whiskey, upgrade to beer, a brief aside of jaeger, back to beer, top with surprise good bourbon, chase with shitty beer, close out with screwdriver, awake in a world of hurt.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not hungover, but i do have the flu, which is the same thing without all the fun of having gotten smashed the night before. i need to go out to the store to buy soup, and i can't even get it together enough to get dressed.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

My condolences. I'm an alcoholic from a long line, had blackouts but no hangovers (at least not from spirits), or even reddened face etc. My aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 activity must be through the roof. Towards the end of my addiction I shifted to diluting 95% grain alcohol, and was disappointed I never felt "drunk" until I fell down some concrete stairs.

Sanpaku, Saturday, 29 December 2018 14:54 (six years ago)

I don't smoke on a daily basis but I can't have two drinks without immediately lighting a cigarette, which leads to another drink and then another couple of cigarettes, and so on, until the ineluctable hangover I am nursing right now.

pomenitul, Saturday, 29 December 2018 15:12 (six years ago)

my hangovers became so bad that i had to give up ever feeling drunk ever again. it is quite difficult when you're with people you like and the booze is flowing. i leave early now, basically. :/

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 29 December 2018 15:27 (six years ago)

It’s been about a month since my last hangover. I like to think that I’m getting more able to control myself, averaging about 4 per session instead of 6 or 7 this time last year

calstars, Saturday, 29 December 2018 15:43 (six years ago)

I halved a half bottle of vodka at "predrinks" then finished half a bottle of wine and then whatever I was drinking for the four hours we were in the nightclub and I am astonished that I am alive today

boxedjoy, Saturday, 29 December 2018 18:43 (six years ago)

Pre-empting it.

Wine tasting on a weekday.

An over abundance of spirit stalls.
Overly generous samples, especially from Mr Jura.

All these seemed great things till about 6.45am today.

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 21:14 (six years ago)

I was in absolute ribbons on Sunday also. I only ate a little tapas Saturday and was drinking from 3pm until midnight. It's that time of year I guess.

I then went for a walk to clear the existential dread, as it was one of those hangovers, and I met a friend I hadn't seen in a long time while in the park, and while we were standing there talking we decided we might as well sit down, and before I knew it I'd had another skinful.

I didn't feel too bad on Monday though so I guess it was a net positive.

FernandoHierro, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 21:17 (six years ago)

I’d like to think that with my age and experience I won’t have another hangover in my life but I know that it’s just a matter of time

calstars, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 21:49 (six years ago)

I am doing 6.5 hours of wine exams these next two days and I think I am going to quit drinking for awhile after.

XVI Pedicabo eam (Neanderthal), Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:11 (four years ago)

I stopped drinking at home about a month ago, but as soon as I'm out with people it comes back in full force. The smoking too, alas.

pomenitul, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:13 (four years ago)

XVI Pedicabo eam (Neanderthal), Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:16 (four years ago)

I also picked up some utterly disgusting grub on my way home and couldn't eat it before hitting the hay so now I feel obligated to wolf it down as penance. Starting to miss lockdown tbh.

pomenitul, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:18 (four years ago)

lol

haven't had a hangover since that one time when I was about 24. seems bad! I feel bad for all you folks!

the only things I feel after a night of heavy drinking is a need to sleep a lot and The Fear

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:20 (four years ago)

drinking alone is about 100% of my boozing these days. I feel deathly today and the paracetamol I took earlier made me feel like sleeping when I had to commit to a 3 mile walk and then cook for 3. Over the worst now and ready to start again in a few hours!

calzino, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:23 (four years ago)

Had 7 pints yesterday. 8 hours of sleep, Fine today

calstars, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:27 (four years ago)

In my late teens and early 20s I would still black out on occasion, partly because of how depressed I was at the time – when you're already in a sorry mental state in your waking life, you not-so-subconsciously wish for unconsciousness – so The Fear was a serious concern, but I'm thankfully at a point where no matter how much I drink (well, almost) I have a good sense of what went down the previous night. It's really just the exhaustion and dehydration and nicotine withdrawal symptoms that fuck me up.

pomenitul, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:28 (four years ago)

One of my locals finally opened back up, a very happy sight.

calstars, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:31 (four years ago)

it's amazing what excuses I make up to have a cigarette when I'm pissed. Was telling myself the other night need to go out for a cig just so I don't miss the wonderful conjunction of Jupiter and the Moon.

calzino, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:31 (four years ago)

tbc The Fear is not of what I may have said or done (though I do recall that feeling!) it's a general low level gross inexplicable paranoia that makes the whole day after kind of ambiently unpleasant despite having full recall of the previous night

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:31 (four years ago)

I'm moving soon and my roommate is in recovery, which will be an excellent reason to never drink at home again

Sorry Chinaski!

This past Monday I was a wreck— it was my husband's birthday the day before, and we began drinking bubbly wine at 2:30 or so and just kept going until around 9. Apparently at some point I told our friend Z, "Today, I'm going to get white girl wasted," and indeed, that's what happened, but we had a GREAT TIME.
