It's happening again - the pub crawl elimination game loosely based on Big Brother. An afternoon boozing in central London, much laughter and fun, taxing philosophical questions, a few surprises, a possible appearance by GEETA!!! and so on.

Do you want to play? Do you want to watch? If you do say so on this thread, where we'll also post details of start time and initial pub.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 21 July 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds fun - will this be in August? as i am real skint at present

james (james), Monday, 21 July 2003 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

August 2nd!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 21 July 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like to play again.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 21 July 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds good

james (james), Monday, 21 July 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay me too def! more detail tho pls!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm up for this.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

How does it work, Tom?

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

(i wd very much like to be in on this but also of course have to be on hand to ferry geeta to her place of stay etc)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

How it works (in brief)

12 contestants plus audience assemble in first pub. Crawl begins. 2 'evictions' in each pub based on votes of fellow contestants (and/or audience). 'Evicted' contestants go to 'home pub' (last one on the crawl). At last pub everyone votes on the WINNAH!

'Tasks' along the way mostly (but not entirely) in the form of answering ILE Thread style questions. (eg "What is the worst thing you have ever done?"; "If you owned a newspaper what would be in it?"; "Show us your blow job face" to name but 3 from previous years).

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I wd like to watch, rather than get picked on again for liking sport.

chris (chris), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

this sounds great, I am even half tempted to join in rather than just observe!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"If you owned a newspaper what would be in it?"

Chips

I think i best watch to be honest groups of people tend to dislike me

james (james), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Shall we see how far I get this year?

Pete (Pete), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

my phone has been on repeat dial voting you out pete since the date wz first mooted

mark s (mark s), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The curse of minestrone is not to be underestimated.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The curse of Baxendale is greater LEST WE FORGET Ricky T.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

So who are the contestants then? I am so very intrigued by this! Which pubs are involved?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Tcha, that curse has weakened thanks to my cunning tictacs of not answering any of the later thread questions properly.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to play. but watching is ok too.

hopefully I won't be too busy working that weekend but for now, I'm in.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

urgent & key: will there be a BB style swap with one of the contestants joining a table of strangers for a round or two and one of them participating in Trig Brother for a pub or two?

also will pete be sent to australia after he inevitably gets evicted?

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Zebedee this will be a back-to-basics Trig Brother but with some surprises.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 21 July 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

All very exciting def! (even if i am easily pleased!!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

You can send me to Australia if you want. I will inevitably npot win, but I might get further than you think.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I sit in the RI:SE studio and comment inexpertly as the "Johnny the Fireman and previous loser" figure.

ps Iain Lee did "Are you a Benny tied to a tree?" to Gos this morning.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Gah! I am going to miss this AGANE! *sulks*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

(Phew - that's a hotly tipped favourite out of the running.)

Pete (Pete), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"Are you a Benny tied to a tree?"

Alan - please enlighten the erm....unenlightened

james (james), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Alan you have to sit in the RI:SE studios and explain Iain Lee's "jokes"

mark s (mark s), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

or just explain Iain Lee.

chris (chris), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll play. (I might regret this later)

Anna (Anna), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey it's looking like a strong field this year!

(Not to discourage anyone else, of course!)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't remember the punchline of that fucking benny joke.

nb my "i'm up for this" above = i wd like to play, if that wasn't clear.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

There is no punch line, the joke exists only in the gestalt-sight of the second person's face, wanting to make a choice but scared of all options.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

For the flash enabled: http://www.benny-tree.co.uk/

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 July 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

can I be Dermot?

chris (chris), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends, can you do the moves like Dermot?

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

you know I got it baby

chris (chris), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i love that, i started off as a bif fat benny but then i changed my mind and i was still a benny **slaps forehead simpleton style**

james (james), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Any chance of the roundup of the rules?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Rule 1: don't talk about Trig Brother

chris (chris), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

and rule 2???

james (james), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I forget...

chris (chris), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

don't talk about love, don't talk about romance...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

dont talk about Trig from Fools & Horses

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Rule 2: DON'T TALK ABOUT TRI... no wait I got that wrong it's (consults folded bit of paper), it's No smoking

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm playing to win this time!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 21 July 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

hey! Can we have a PIRATE THEME????? please??

jel -- (jel), Monday, 21 July 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't trust Jel, HE HAS A GAME PLAN!

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 July 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'VE SEEN HIS PLANK!!

mark s (mark s), Monday, 21 July 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I've scanned Digital Spy's notes, so they'll be going up, not that they'll make much sense, although it is interesting watching the handwriting and thought processes deteriorating as the day goes on. And if I could get away with burning them I would....

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 4 August 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i got voted out of dirty xword despite "I BLO TATU"!!

mark s (mark s), Monday, 4 August 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

of = bcz of

mark s (mark s), Monday, 4 August 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't think we voted on dirty crossword! But then my memory of that evening is not to be trusted....

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 4 August 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

aha but i read the (so-called) reasons for my eviction this morning...

mark s (mark s), Monday, 4 August 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve - you spilt the drinks over the table and most of them hit Dom. There was minor trickle damage on my trousers.

The cab situation did happen. We took you to McDonalds because Dom reckoned you'd be able to vomit better with some rubbish food inside you. There was a cashpoint there that you somehow got a tenner out of. We then went home and spent a fair bit of Sunday worrying about whether or not you were dead. It was friggin 'tastic.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 4 August 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark it was simple envy. Everyone on ilx would like to BLO TATU.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 August 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

ah! I think Davina should have kept the reasons, or at least copied them down for posterity. Actually, I was accused of being mean in my reasons when I went back to the blue posts, so maybe it's best that they're forgotten about...

I hope no-one took it personally. (well not after sat night, anyway, I took mine far too personally on the night!)

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and you were shouting HARDCORE!!! a lot. We were unsure why.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Isabel was worried about her perceived meanness too. One day technology will let voters blog reasons straight to ILX by slurred voice recognition or some such.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

apart from isabel you were all mean to me.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The last question was actually: 'What's the most UNACCEPTABLE thing...", in line with the legendary ILX thread of arse horror.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

But Julio, you got the joker, and got to chose the music in the second pub!

I was under the impression that drinking non-alcoholic drinks would stand against me, and so I don't want to think about how much alcohol passed my lips, so apologies for any out of character behaviour...

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry ricky, also the pinkpanther's question was 'sneaking out, classic or dud' but I don't know if that one got asked?

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I read the reasons for my eviction on the bus on the way home. I almost cried.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

''But Julio, you got the joker, and got to chose the music in the second pub!''

That was v 'nice' considering the sort of music I'm known for listening to.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

No there were two that didnt get asked. One was sneaking out and the other one was a question about my beard. Obviously it was complete coincidence that one went missing.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yes tom that was my question you meanie!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

most embarassing thing was (apart from the Spanish bar ruin, AND my utterly rubbish answers to the first two questions) i nominated Pete, accusing him of quasi-racism, then had to spend the next hour or so with him teaching me the rules to bar billiards in the Glasshouse Stores. amazingly i don't think he minded and didn't make up rules in order for him to win - at least i don't think so...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 4 August 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

The look of genuine horror and bewilderment on the faces of the Blue Posts regulars as the volume and spectacle rose to unbearable heights was my personal highlight of the evening. Not that I'm saying it was a good thing.

When's Rag Week next year?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The amusing thing is as me and Stevem got to the pub a stag night was in progress - rolling down the road. I warned the barman - I wouldn't let them in - they look a bit rowdy.

How grateful he looked.

How foolish he felt later.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

In the Dog and Duck we encountered a Monopoly pub crawl in progress and swapped crawling tips - that was nice.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

They were lovely people, I got a picture of them if I recall correctly (which, let's face it, is doubtful)

chris (chris), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Monopoly pub crawl = mission of mentalism. My successful attempt ended with a near miss pissing of pants incident.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris ducked into the star and garter to avoid such an incident, when moving between pubs, and was worried that the barmaid had spotted him so got a whisky and coke and downed it in one. No wonder he was so wankered!

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

she was informing me that the upstairs bar was shut rather than enforcing the "toilets are for patrons only" rule :o(

chris (chris), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I felt a lot better on Sunday than I had any right to really, though avoiding Spanish Bar ruin was obv a key help here. I was very pleased to have got so far. I think not talking about sport or football was a key determinant in my success, given Chris's experiences last year.

Many thanks for the kind shirt carrying off comments. I sadly am still wearing said shirt. And shorts. And Sandals. I am not a hippy, nor a crusty and have changed pants (to reassure all those who I see tonight).

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 4 August 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
Revive!

Jesus. My memory is appalling; I can't remember anything about this except i was robbed obv.

Whatever happened to the scanned notes taken by Digital Spy?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 23 January 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

sshhh. Actually, I think they got lost when my hard drive died, as we arrange any hosting for them, and we all lost interest.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 23 January 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

My memories of this are similarly hazy. I remember Geeta turning up, Katie G proving to be top class sub editor material w/the headlines, arriving in Spain and very little else.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 23 January 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I'd been there. I *will* play next year (as I've been saying for the past two years).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 January 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I hadn't been so nice to Stevem now...
Quasi-racism indeed.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i shall treasure the day for all time. i wondered what happened to the notes too - now they belong to the ages.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 23 January 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the originals may be hanging around our spare room somewhere

chris (chris), Friday, 23 January 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

No, they were on the bookcase in the hall and I had a tidying up and throwing out session, and they'd been sitting there since august, so they went in the bin.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 23 January 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

boooooo, bad vicky ;P

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 23 January 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicky won, so as the Queen of Trig Brother she can do whatevah she likes! *crosses arms*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 January 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I demand a stewards inquiry. Had the masses known then what they know now, the result would have been difficult. Of this I am sure.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 23 January 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I don'tthink people knowing that in actuyality you are a mentally retarded abused paedophile murderer played clumsily by Tim Robbins would help you owt Dave.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

dave IS NOT mates with sean devine though (to my knowledge)...

i'd forgotten vicky had won (and thus maintained the glorious record)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 23 January 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I think next year we should ban Sinister people from voting.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 January 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember coming 3rd or was it fourth? Actually, I only just got some pictures developed from the day...a shadowy Tom, and a pic of Chris, Tim and Mark laughing. I also got a really bad headache that day. It was fun though. Dunno if I'll be playing this year, I may retire.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 January 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

the pictures from the follow-up thread have been misplaced it seems

more importantly...

OH MY GOD I JUST FOUND THIS - EVERYONE LOOKS SO WEIRD/YOUNG!!!!!!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

gareth in THAT Moog t-shirt....beardless Tom Ewing....Tim Hopkins looking about 19...i'm overwhelmed

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, great pics!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

That T-shirt was such a bad idea. Still I am the only ILxor who appears to have lost weight.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i think DG has as well judging by when i last saw him in The Harrow

question - is that really the same Emma?????

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

She has regenerated since then.

Obv Emma is thinner too, and all the girls (just in case I get beat up), and DG. Hopkins looks like Zammo.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i refuse to believe this took place less than 3 years ago. shame there don't seem to be any pics from the 2nd one

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh heh heh. If only I had had a better scanner to work with.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)
