I am at work and without a sound card but I like the look of the Speech Accent Archive.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Thankyou N, 25 minutes satisfactorily spent.

This thread must not die so soon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The middle classes are spoiling this project - the Brummie one is a disgrace!

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I had to close that page before it ate my day.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

the people of my nation salute you.

Victoria (High Quality) (gcannon), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

This is fabulous, N. Thanks for the link.

That Brummie one sounded faintly like she had an Aussie twang to her voice. How weird.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I assume she's of Chinese origin.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I presumed she was originally from Birmingham but has perhaps travelled a bit and picked up bits of accents from all over the world like wot I have done. Maybe the other languages she has listed are her degree ones?

I thought about adding mine to the database, but since I don't have any discernible regional accent, it would be a bit pointless.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Well yes that is the problem with us poshos.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, it's no problem. I can feign a good "Oim zorry, oim a ztranger ere moizelf" Gloucestershire mangelworzel accent when the need arises.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

So fake it and send it in.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I am unsuited to dishonesty

C J (C J), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The Smith Islanders they taped have spent a bit too much time in Crisfield. Among themselves, the dialect sounds like Cockney Elvis.
