duane (doorag), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Small Change is great and has a couple of my all-time favorite Tom Waits songs on it, most notably "Step Right Up", which was the tune that destroyed my early teenage notions that Tom Waits' songwriting abilities were limited to the 'bummer' end of the spectrum.

The rainy weather here has been inspiring my listening choices today; so far I've listened to Sigur Ros' Von, and Joy Division's Closer, and am currently rocking to the max Morphine's Bootleg Detroit live album. Shit. Yeah.

I think I'm gonna put Fantomas' Director's Cut on next as my fight-the-afternoon-lethargy-with-a-vengeance choice.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Various, Best of Salsa Masters (1998, Déclic Communications)

Hotdamn. I sooo enjooooyed this stuff.

The C'Cruz album is 'bit puzzling, however: the cover sayeth "1996/ 1998, Exworks Rec.", yet the recordings definitely sound much, much older -- early to mid-60s, I'd venture.
(The AMG's gushing review, helpfully, doesn't mention anything as regards the dates of recording)
