gareth (gareth), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hengistbury Head

chris (chris), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

hastings had some on changing rooms **hangs head in shame**

james (james), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Exmouth used to ahve some. Why though?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Tate Britain.

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

walton on the naze = classic

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a feature on R4 recently claiming that beach huts in Southwold are currently selling for £60,000!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like a beach hut. Somewhere to make the tea and shelter from the weather.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

otherwise known as a house/flat

james (james), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you have a flat or house on the beach?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

southwold = gorgeous so i'm not surprised. i will live there, become old, eccentric, write poetry and a regular curmudgeonly newspaper column and smoke a pipe there in my ideal twighlight years

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

nope like the wise man i built my on solid foundations

james (james), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Thorpe Bay. My Grandma used to have one there. Make sandcastles on the beach, have a paddle, & then when the tide comes in, go upstairs/indoors for a cup of tea & your tinned salmon salad.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That's it Mr Moore, that's it precisely.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Possibly do a spot of crabbing.

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Whitstable.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Do Americans have beach huts or just flashy 'beach houses'?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Beach huts = things that originated in Victorian times because showing any of your flesh or getting changed on the beach was EVIL and SINFUL and typical of all our British hangups. Of course Americans don't have them.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

But 19th century Americans were even more hung up about this stuff than the British!

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the fuss over beach huts is stupid. They are HUTS. TINY HUTS. Very convenient, even very pretty some of them. But the whole Southwold/Devon desirable bijou property thing? Dud.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

What are beach huts?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary is like a cute annoying 3 year old Anglophile who keeps asking questions.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Why?

Beach huts!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Have a lollipop, Mary. *pats head and goes back to reading the paper and ignoring her*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick thinks I'm cute;)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess they are like sheds. Nope, we don't have them.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Why?

Because I said so. Ask your father.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

They're not beach huts, Matt.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

they must have the colours that mooros pic has. i think walton on the naze is the way forward

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is your picture from, Gareth?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

They are huts and they are on the beach. What more do you want?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently that is walton on the naze

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Like here?

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The ones in the BBC report had bedrooms. Beach huts cannot have bedrooms. It is the law.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Or these?

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 24 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I have always wanted to own a beach hut. Are they very expensive, do you suppose?

I know that this is blurry (camera shake - it was cold & v wet) but I was trying to show that here the huts are as thick on the slope as a flock of sheep
