The ilx admin situation

Right, can someone fill me in on what's going on? Who has access? As stated before, the plan is to make it freely downloadable. The problem is that currently, if I were to make the software available for other people to download, all Alan's work commenting it and everything else will be lost (and you don't have my permission to make my parts public).

Also can someone point me to the discussion that took place re: changing the admin password? You may hate me, but you have to work with me on this.

(I was going to post this on 12ftlizards, but hardly anyone replies on there)

PS Mr Noodles can eat a dick

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

Well at least you have taken the mature approach Graham! All the mods rock (heh heh) imo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

Do you have documentary evidence that Mr Noodles can eat a dick. I'd pay good money to buy that on e-bay.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

A whole one?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

oooh the hairs would make me gag

james (james), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

We could shave it first.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Maybe it was a spotted dick.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham I would say what I know (not much) but I don't really want to speak out of turn or misrepresent other people.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Shaven all the way when it comes to eating a whole one i should imagine!! oo-er! Unless of course it's a chocolate one! mmmmm!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mmm, steamed pudding. With custard. Yes.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Or maybe it's a typo and he meant duck. Or even turdurken.

Larcole (Nicole), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

You could floss with the hairs.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Maybe it was a spotted dick.
U can cream for that you know!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Can I be a moderator?

Thanks.

Spoonered (Spoonered), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Crikey Pete, how long is your pubic hair?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

it may actually be dice - i could eat a whole dice - shaved or not

james (james), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

You're right to fear them Nick.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's nothing to do with fear, silly.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

Plaited or au maturale?

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Can someone please answer this seriously?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

You could always plait the hair & then move it discreetly to the side whilst consuming the yummier bits!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

The only thing N. fears is the hair police.

(In all seriousness is anyone going to answer Graham? Yes saying someone can eat a dick is silly...)

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

(saying that one of the few people who COULD answer him can eat a dick is a bit more than silly)

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

Moderation, admin and technical overhaul are undertaken collectively, when people are available etc.

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think the discussion to change the admin password took place in real life as opposed to on the boards. Or at least off board if electronic.

If going public then we need to know what bits of the board are your private parts Graham.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mr Noodles can eat victory burgers. maybe that's the same thing as a dick in canada.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Serious answer: no discussion took place, at least before the password got changed. Don't know who has access now.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

What, Pete, so Noodles can eat them?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

I didn't know Mr Noodles was involved.

As far as any of you are concerned all of it is Pete.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

we need to know what bits of the board are your private parts Graham.

*titter*

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

what is Mr noodles having for lunch today?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham, are you seriously asserting ownership over *all* the code? Even the stuff Alan modified?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham's private parts are bored?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

mine certainly are

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

He did some commenting which I'm very grateful for, but beyond that he never got further than a bit of tidying up.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

*sniggers*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh, OK. JOOI, are you intending to GPL the code?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm not sure of the copyright issues involved in creating the functiionality of a message board to exactly duplicate that of another message board (ie Greenspun). I would imagine not very good.

The additional features on the other hand would probably be relatively easy to claim some kind of ownership over. Though I would imagine copyright of code is a gnarly area (possibly based on who the code was made for, where it is now based and Mr Noodles dick eating capacity).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

all I want to know is, what happened to the Search? It used to be nice and easy to use and reasonably quick, but now it's been replaced with some google and alltheweb cobblers. What's the deal with that, then, hmmm?

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mark there have been a billion questions asked about this over the last few day. Do a search for them.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

If you can find them that is!! sorry N, please dont kill me!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

so what is happening to the board - and what is meant by going public?

help the thickies

james (james), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

Certain types of search were slowing the whole system down, so the search has been replaced temporarily untill a work around can be found.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mark: Go here.

Pete: The part that duplicates the UI of Greenspun is only a tiny and insignificant part. By which I mean the "extra features" constitute 90% of the code.

Rick: No, the GPL is a horrible thing that most people that support it don't understand. BSD-like seems more likely. I don't even have a copy of Alan's commented version though.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

Do a search for them

Haha! Like if someone explains how to use the bloody thing. Do you put a slash after the text that's already there, or replace it, or what?

And to think you could've just *told* me!

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

Am I the only person who is not having an issue with the search function? WTF? I didn't notice there was a problem.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

Chew do you not think that knowing when to stop something is a valuable life skill? (This doesn't apply to ILX because it's no longer anyone's to stop). It seems to me you're being very simplistic about Tim's position - which is sensible and interesting regardless of the mentalism it ended up sparking.(/i>

I was posting frome the heart rather than the head earlier (I meant thread rather than post too), but I don't fell that one person, or evean a group of people, can pass value judgements on a community that is so much more than them, and still draws in new and interesting members. I'm loving Dada's posts at the moment for example. But even if I found it less friendly, exciting, gratifying than I had previously I don't believe that my experiences are worth more than someone who has only just discovered here and is finding their feet. If they love it here, what right has anyone to take it away?

As to knowing when to stop being important. Yes, yes, it is. But as you point out, ILX is no-one's to stop.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Saturday, 26 July 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

I stopped being important decades ago, sadly.
