Sewing patches on jackets---c/d?

I have a little US immigration patch that I wanted to sew onto my new cheap jacket. I thought it might be funny. Will I regret doing that? Have you sewed patches onto a jacket? It strikes me as very 1985 East Berlin.

Uber-classique. If you get tired of your pinned jacket, you can always buy a new one. Also: mom&pop laundromat will happily sew on for a small fee.
