Isn't anyone here remotely intrigued by the possibility that the next President will be a female African-American - and a Republican, at that?

Is this allowed under the constitution? I read somewhere that the President had to be a white male over 35, but I remember being sceptical about this - I could well understand if the constitution used to say this and was later amended.

Over 35 and born in the US, I believe (so people nationalised cannot be President). Not 100% sure.

For being a nation of imigrants the nationilised thing is a bit tight ass.

I thought this question was going to be about some new variant of brown rice or something.

Obviously Condi Rice cannot be the next president. The next president will obviously be either Bush or a Democrat. After that, Cheney will theoretically be too near death to inspire much confidence, which makes me think Powell might finally give it a shot.

Also: obviously our first African-American president will be a Republican. This is basically the Republican strategy of the future.

over-35 has been amended in recent years to over-25, fwiw. nitsuh you are so right. and remember what chris rock said: you'll never see a black vice-president. cause some black guy would just shoot the president, go to jail, get treated like a hero, and get pardoned... by the new black president.

She does have the coolest name of anyone in politics. I want to invent a recipe called Condoleesza Rice. It would be very festive & spicey.

Huh? This would require a constitutional amendment; the last one that was ratified involved congressional pay raises and the last one before that was ratified in the early 70s. I don't think this is true. You can be a US representative at the age of 25 though.

As far as Ms. Rice: she is a VERY timid, awkward public speaker, not prone to simplicity, and probably unelectable. And I too would be shocked if the first nonwhite or nonmale president was a democrat.

Kris, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The over-25 thing is completely false, I don't know where he got that info.
