Roll On vs Aerosol

The only grocery store in walking distance has an aisle dedicated to Tofu, and doesn't stock any product deemed harmful to the environment. Thus - I am forced to purchase and use roll-on deodorant for the first time in my 25+ years. Yeeeeeuck! It's weird, and I now see my underarms in an entirely different light. I miss the refreshing spray of evil (but cool) aerosol every day. Which side are you on, ILX?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Saturday, 26 July 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time I saw anyone use spray-on deodorant was in middle school gym class. That shit is wack.

Personally I find the Old Spice High Endurance stuff to be excellent. Speed Stick and all that other shit stopped doing it for me sometime in college.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 26 July 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Spray deodorant reminds me of nasty locker rooms. It tends to stink out rooms as well as destroying the environment. Sticks and roll ons for me.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 26 July 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Looks like I really mis-read the pulse of the zeitgeist.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Saturday, 26 July 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

you can spell out your frozen name on the bathroom towels with aerosol deodorant.

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 26 July 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm smells like Teen Spirit.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 26 July 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought all aerosols had been banned? Haven't seen them sold anywhere in 10 years or so.

oops (Oops), Saturday, 26 July 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and roll-ons suck as well. It's all about the stick, yo.

oops (Oops), Saturday, 26 July 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Aerosols aren't banned here anyway. They just don't have ozone depleting CFCs in them anymore. But they are still a waste of packaging.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 26 July 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Stick all the way. I use Arm & Hammer unscented.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 26 July 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

(what is the difference between sticks or rollons?)

anyway, not aerosols. tho i have to admit, not having used them since i was 13 or so, i kinda miss that initial freezing sensation used to get with 'em.

H (Heruy), Saturday, 26 July 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

(roll on is a liquid, sticks are solid)

oops (Oops), Saturday, 26 July 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I used an aerosol for the first time this week. weird. Stick, for sure.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 26 July 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

weird space gel for me:

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 26 July 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I just realised there is a difference between stick and roll-on, too. The product in my initial post is in fact a stick, folks.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Saturday, 26 July 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

There are also 'sticks' of anti-perspirant cream that you click click click.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 26 July 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Then there are always those big "organic" crystal chunks that you can rub your armpits with.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 26 July 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Then there are always those big "organic" crystal chunks that you can rub your armpits with.

...which only work for me and everybody I've met who's tried them if followed with powder, and then only barely.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Saturday, 26 July 2003 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

you've actually tried 'em?

H (Heruy), Saturday, 26 July 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

What powder?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 26 July 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

you've actually tried 'em?

Ten years ago, when they were first put out on the market. I didn't even know that they were still made until a few days ago when I saw some on the shelves.

What powder?

Baby powder.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Saturday, 26 July 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't use any of these things. I hope this isn't a tragic mistake.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 27 July 2003 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

stick.

minna (minna), Sunday, 27 July 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't use any of these things. I hope this isn't a tragic mistake.

I don't either; and it is (well, socially anyway). But I will not put strange metals that prevent natural perspiration anywhere on my body. No.

Aaron A., Sunday, 27 July 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

stick or aerosol - absolutely never, never roll-on...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Sunday, 27 July 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

however if you get an empty roll-on deodorant and stamp on it really hard, the ball shoots out of it like a lil fragrant canon... this was fun to do at school, i seem to remember

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Sunday, 27 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on, where are the '"Ew! Ew! Aaron and Martin, that's gross" cavalry?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 27 July 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

er, pump spray deodorant?!!!

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Sunday, 27 July 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my exes didn't use anti-perspriant. I didn't mind this. He showered often. In the US especially I think we've been condtioned to think your natural body smell is always bad, but this isn't the case. I actually found his smell very sexy.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 27 July 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

aerosol reminds me of middle school gym and right guard which smells worse than body odor to me. yick. I didn't know anyone used aeorosols anymore!

gel for me although the kind I use is tricky to find for some reason.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Sunday, 27 July 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Roll on is best. I think we have to consider the disintegration of our clothes along with the sweet smelling nature of our arm pits. Sticks for men are pretty awful as bit get stuck in the underarm hair and looks gross.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 27 July 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I do shower very frequently - I don't think I smell bad.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 27 July 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

On a hot day you must reek, no?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 27 July 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think so, and so far no one has told me I do. I think my wife would have told me if I did. My standards have been more rigorous, if anything, since being single.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 27 July 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I know that the smell comes from bacteria on the skin but I thought they would be rampant in a short time after a shower (if the day was hot enough).

BTW Aaron A - diff between deodorant and anti-perspirant. Some deodorants do not conatin harmful things.

*Crystal only works if you use it in conjunction with a can of Lynx and frequent washing.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 27 July 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Lynx is just a stink with no anti-perspirant qualities! What is a deodorant if it's not anti-perspirant - does it work like Neutrodol? Has anyone tried applying Neutrodol powder to their body?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 27 July 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate the texture of anti-perspirant sticks. They make my pits get this raw burning sensation shortly after applying. Hate it hate it hate it.

I use deodorant only, but I can get away without it if I need to most of the time.

(Walking around NYC all day on July 4th is not one of those times).

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 27 July 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

WHAT IS NON ANTI-PERSPIRANT DEODORANT BUT CHEAP AFTER SHAVE?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 27 July 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a deodorant. It deodorises. Anti-perspirant stops the sweat coming. Deodorant lets it gush, but neutralises the aroma.

And it really does deodorise! Next time you're pretending to have given up cigarettes, only to have your girlfriend come back to the flat sooner than you expected, try scooshing some of the stuff into the air (open a window as well). The room will reek of Lynx Oriental and NOTHING ELSE. Try to use perfume or aftershave, and the stench will be classier but will be mixed with detectable cigarette smoke.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

So it is related to Neutrodol (do you have that in the US? Air freshener that actually absorbs smells rather than just masking it like the old sort). Well that's very interesting. I shall examine the shelves of the Superdrug with more care.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You should. There are often baby octopuses behind the packets of tampons. And I once found 20p.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

There is no way I am going around smelling of Lynx so it would have to be a fragrance-free one. You can tell I don't believe you, can't you?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I once got mugged for 20p in Superdrug by two kids with a craft knife.

Total lifetime losses from muggings: £250.20 and a Curly Wurly. But I got the £250 back so yeah, just 20p and a Curly Wurly.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I know someone, I really do, who is a bit smelly. In order to bash the BO, he sprays Lynx periodically ONTO THE JUMPER HE IS WEARING. The problem is not solved, I need hardly say, but doubled. So I get what you're saying.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on - I got the Bellenden Rd sweet shop incident wrong. He asked me for the Curly Wurly but I refused and gave him a 2p chew that I didn't really want.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Total lifetime losses from muggings: £250.20 and a Curly Wurly. But I got the £250 back so yeah, just 20p and a Curly Wurly.

Until a year ago, my total lifetime loss from crime almost exactly equalled my total lifetime gain (about £3000).

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Crime's a bit strong. Dishonesty.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know what to believe now.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 27 July 2003 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

my old BF didn't even use deodrant (alghtough sometimes in summer i use deoderant instead of Anti-Perspr to avoid staining.) He used nothing and still this didn't bother me. So for a few hours we were all oustide sweating, he smelt no worst than the rest of us and they fact that he wasn't nervous about how he smelt (by trying to hide it) he somehow smelt better.

end of story.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Monday, 28 July 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I use roll on but I carry a wee aerosol of the same brand about in my bag, just to freshen up if I have to go somewhere straight from work or sumfink, you know?

smee (smee), Monday, 28 July 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
And you fancy stinking of piss.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

six months pass...
Wow, this "stick" is great! It combines the best features of roll on and aerosol!

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

It is also pleasingly cool.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)
