Random acts of kindness

I just was given this box from Amazon, I'm all, dude, I didn't order anything, must be a bomb. So after proper de-bombing techniques (i.e. we all shook it and listened to it), I opened it. Inside was an import CD, wrapped in paper and everything, with a card attached from a person I don't know and have never spoken to, telling me that he thought I had good taste and that after the couple weeks I've probably been thru in NYC I could use something nice. It was so random and sweet. What's the nicest thing anyone's done for you this week?

Ally, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Carsmile bought me beers all evening on Tuesday. That was very nice.

Tom, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was at a sort of party last night and a girl I know finally told me I was an asshole. I'd been wondering for ages how we went from being good friends to her disliking me.

Ronan, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was kissed full on the mooth by a stranger at a firefighter benefit at The Gate Tuesday night, in Brooklyn! More of this!

Er, how is this considered a random act of kindness? Did you consider it a random act of kindness that she finally told you what she really thought of you? Because that sounds more cruel than kind to me.

As for me, I can't think of anything. It's been a bad week.

Nicole, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my flatmate got me drunk last night, I thought this kind at the time. Other threads show he was secretly trying to kill me.

chris, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, Ally, that was me. Glad you liked it. Will you go out with me? ;-)

Nude Spock, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah there was a big conversation which consisted of her making silly excuses and me saying I just wanted to hear her call someone she thought was an asshole an asshole. I mean for god sake its not like it was any secret. Fake ass b-atch.

Ronan, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Katie bought me an eccles cake last night.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

David bought me pocky. Tons of it !

anthony, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I cannot think of any but if my chums would like to buy me lots of beer tonight that would be good.

Emma, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You could have made yourself sound really self pitying and that might have worked even better.

Ronan, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, certain people have been around for chatting and that's nice. :-) Meantime, I'm whipping up a nice little care package for my friend Eve in Chicago, because she's feeling down (and is also broke, which is unfun).

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

on valentine's day we ordered expensive delivery sushi, it took them 2 hrs to deliver despite a promise that it would arrive in 45 mins. The delivery guy felt so bad, he drove back on his own time to give us a pint of delicious green tea ice cream.

fritz, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma you are poorly and the kindest thing we can do for you is not buy you any beer at all.

Tom, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am not poorly any more I am fighting fit and ready for beer.

Emma, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No-one's done anything nice for me this week. It's all been pure unadulterated misery ;)

Paul Strange, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ally has made me feel all fluffy by starting this thread.

watch the tube ride home knock that fluff outta me!

katie, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Just watch out for a bunch of kids in hooded tops with shifty eyes. Especially if one's playing on a Gameboy, another is handing out flyers and another is reading up on Mareva Injunctions.

Paul Strange, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have such a great story, but it's pretty nasty and don't want you all to think I'm a perverted villian that hangs around with a bunch of crack-smoking freaks.

I hope that doesn't come across as a tease...

Sean, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh *please* -- we all dream of doing that anyway. C'mon, share!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well it's along the lines of someone saying "you'd look cool wearing such and such"... and then ordering soda from some call-and-get-it- delivered service... and the said item was ordered along with it. Since I barely knew this person, it was a nice gesture.

Sadly, the specifics must be omitted, they're truly shocking.

Sean, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Now, NS, you know I am a spoken-for woman...

The guy emailed me back (he put his email in the note), he's a real nice guy, I'm still kind of shocked someone would do this for me. Now I want to do it for someone else. IT'S LIKE PAY IT FORWARD!!!!!!!!!!!! Except not crap and without Kevin Spacey.

I am happy.

Ally, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

:-) I'm all with that description. No Haley Joel "I see my dead career" Osment either.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

_A.I._ may change things.

David, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Feel free to amazon me some cds!

I received many drunken hugs from cute girls last night. And told I was "sweet", in a good way I think, er I hope. I also donated some dog food to the relief workers, and that felt GRATE. If I only had a dog now.

bnw, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, I heard the rumor they're going to alter _AI_ for DVD release given the NYC skyline sequence and all, so maybe they can digitally erase Osment as well. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A friend of a friend around whom I was very shy last year has started smiling and waving to me in the halls, which makes me happy. Everyone in my voice class is very sweet to everyone else because we are all nervous about people hearing us sing.

Maria, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well it's almost the weekend, so hopefully there will be plenty of opportunity for more people to do nice things to, er, for me.

Sean, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Our dope dealer let us off a $45 debt a couple days ago. We found out afterwards it was 'cause he'd hidden some stolen property in our shed.

duane, Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My mum and dad came to visit me last night with a vacuum cleaner in hand. It's so pretty.

A woman at work from whom I'd borrowed a nutrition textbook said I could keep it because she had a spare copy. That one was a really pleasant surprise as I hardly knew her and I love the book.

Tabs, Saturday, 22 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmm...no-one has been kind to me this week, but I gave a pair of Chelsea boots to my dad this morning, they had almost never been worn and didn't fit me any more. I are nice kind person.

DG, Saturday, 22 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My friends are always doing sweet little things for me. Like they will devise cunning ways to find out my favourite snacks and treats and then secretly buy them and leave them on my bed. And make my sandwich in the morning if I am late. When we walk down the street together, Katharine is on my left and Kirsten is on my right. with them around there is a wealth of kindnesses, and its not even random.

rainy, Sunday, 23 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmm...my mother gave me a box of Oreos a week ago. This wouldn't be of such note, but she's from El Salvador, doesn't believe in sugar, and she NEVER bought me any artificial sweets or treats growing up. So now I _like_ the stuff, I've just been conditioned not to eat it, if ya know what I mean. Anyway, you can bet I really enjoyed that box.

BTW, Ally, what CD was it and how did you like it?

Jack Redelfs, Sunday, 23 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It was St. Etienne's Interlude and I like it quite well :)

Ally, Sunday, 23 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eleven months pass...

I dropped off a sweater to be dry cleaned which had a hole around the armpit. about five minutes later the lady called me to say that she didn't think she should dry clean it because of the tear. I told her to go ahead anyway. when I picked it up yesterday I discovered she had sewn the hole up!
