I still can't believe that anyone aside from my mother's good and dear friend Maureen would not only know but also use the phrase "fuck a duck". That's what I can't believe.

August? Oh yeah, that month. Please alert me when it's October. I'd like to feel comfortable in my bedroom again. (Not that this summer hasn't been splendid thus far. Not a single 100-plus degree temperature reading has hit us yet this year. Knock on wood, this trend will continue.)

I like august too, and it looks as though we might be having a heatwave on my birthday which never happened when I was young enought to have parties, and which is very different from last year, when the heavens opened.

I suddenly thought to myself the other day 'gosh, are we half way through the year yet then?' before being appalled that we were a month past the half way mark :0(

I'm not kidding, hon. We've had a relatively cool summer thus far because of the huge amount of rain we received earlier on in July. Thank goodness for hurricanes that make it to the Gulf Coast. Although I'm sure we'll probably catch up this month and in September. Argh.

And I do remember the summer when we actually did get temperature readings of around 109 - 112. It was the most unpleasant summer I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing. I nearly passed out the day we had the high of 112, because right at the peak temperature time I had to walk nearly a mile from the building I was previously in to where my vehicle was parked, and I was carrying my backpack as well. I think I was shaky the whole evening.

Rabbit Rabbit Day!

(My mom says this is some Russian tradition, on the first day of every month you say "Rabbit Rabbit Day" for good luck. Ideally, it's supposed to be the first words you say/hear that day; my mom used to wake me and my sister up on the first day of every month by bursting into the bedrooms and crowing, "Rabbit Rabbit Day!")

Rabbit Rabbit Day! is new to me. I grew up to Rabits! which you say the moment you wake up for good luck for the month. I am not sure where it started in my family, As we are mostly french on both sides. I have also heard of White Rabits!
