I apologize if this is old news to some of you. I am posting this 3 months after the fact, but I have only just been informed myself. I hope none of us have made boobs of ourselves casually mentioning the now-nonextistent "Jack Russell" terriers.

That's weird! I was reading a book yesterday (Shena Mackay, Dunedin, i think) and one character says that jack russell terriers used to be called parson russell terriers. Strange how these things crop up.

Anyway, why did they change it first time? And why are they changing it back again?

Parson Russell?? That's a terrible name for a dog. I loved the name Jack Russell -- it sounded like the name of a flyweight Irish boxer.

but anyway.. Jack/Parson Russell Terriers are the greatest fucking dogs on the planet. You just can't have them with other dogs in the house, especially bigger rough dogs (because the terriers can be pretty brutal and don't realize how small they are) And they may not be the best with very young kids.. but otherwise, they are amazing, amazing beasts.

There's a family who come to the dog park at Marymoor a lot who have a little girl about three, and two nearly-identical Mr. Russells (who are brothers). Those are some of the most insane doggies EVER -- they tussle over their toys, leap high in the air, knock over the little girl (who giggles like mad, not the least bit concerned), and generally behave like extremely humorous maniacs. They make my dog look normal in comparison. I love them.
