Does anyone remember these things? Apparently they are making a comeback. Along with other 80's toys.

A complete list of GPK.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

These were horrible lil fuckers! I have seen them in the shops already!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember.

new wave dave, Friday, 1 August 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I collected them for about four hours but then decided they were ugly and stupid and creepy.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine is disgusting.

They were very creepy, that's what made them so appealing to me. I wonder whatever happened to my collection,if you can call it that --I was not able to afford many back then.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone seen the GBK movie?

They were the fad at my school, but after my mom bought me a pack and saw what they were she refused to buy anymore for me. They are about the last thing there should be a revival of.

fletrejet, Friday, 1 August 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Was it a bunch of dying toddlers?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Gleefully accepting their horrible fates? These really were pretty yuck.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Roy Bot will always be a Klassic.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i really liked these. the first time around. i cant imagine that i'll start collecting them again. i wonder where all mine went!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 1 August 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorta like the Gashlycrumb Tinies, but with self-will.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 August 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a nearly complete set, but I actually stuck them in a book. Duh! They're somewhere at my parents' place back home in Toronto...

I never had a Cabbage Patch myself, but I'm proud to say that my mom was one of those moms who stampeded the mall in a desperate attempt to get one for my younger sister for christmas back in about '84.

elisabeth k, Friday, 1 August 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

classic. i still have a pile of them somewhere. i was robbed by hippies in college & lost more than a few. remember the "certificates of laziness etc. on the backs of the cards?

kephm, Friday, 1 August 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I just spent the last hour on the GPK web site looking up all the cards. My brother and I religiously collected them (made baseball cards seem so laaaame). I, too, wonder where the hell they went. My mom probably tossed them ages ago. Though I think we still have those little pink M.U.S.C.L.E. guys somewhere.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

MUSCLE guys! One looked like he had a chicken head. I still have all my GI JOES and Star Wars characters. Sadly my baseball card collection is gone.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

M.U.S.C.L.Es were great - the designs are still very kewl. I had a few partially mutilated ones left that a I gave away a year ago.

let's try that again shall we...

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I always liked this dude...

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

These are classic simply because they were created by giga-classic artist Mark Newgarden (and Art Spiegelman).

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, this brings back memories. I think I had the complete set for the first 2 series or something like that. I know exactly where mine are, in a box in the closet. Though I doubt I'd get much money for them with them coming back.

What a solid, can't-miss idea!

This stuff all just reminds me that I'm 32 and probably supposed to have like young kids by now to take to Smurfs/Chipmunks/Transformers reboots marketed to both of us.

Kenneth Toilethole (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

In terms of the studios' most cynical motivations, yeah, that's probably the idea.

you can take a bunch of ILXors.

Why are they making this movie before the Voltron one?

Ugh that is so weird. I've been really freaked out lately by seeing the few people I know on FB who had kids really young and realizing those kids are now pre-teens. I'm only just now starting to maybe come to terms with the idea of having a kid in the not so distant future and even that seems really really strange to me. I think I'm developmentally stunted or something.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

I was not allowed to have these things because my mom thought they were gross. Which, you know, they really were.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

I loved them. I don't know what happened to mine. I even had a few supersized one, remember those?

The movie looks horrifying. What is its availability status?

MrDasher, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)

It's currently streaming on Netflix! Don't worry about it, though. It's not even fun bad. It's just baaaad.

Alan Hale's Corn Casserole Recipe (Family Circle, June 1976) (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

do not watch that movie if you value your life - it spreads evil in your essence that you can never erase

The Cheerfull Turtle (Latham Green), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:35 (thirteen years ago)

I wish I still had mine. I was always envious of my cousin, who had collected many shoeboxes full of cards. Is there a book out there of them somewhere? The artwork was gross and great.

A movie sounds like a terrible idea -- I don't even remember the first movie? I must have been listening to too much INXS.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

lol

I remember the movie. I also remember being jealous of my friends who had these.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:45 (thirteen years ago)

Isn't there an episode of The Cosby Show where Rudy has a party and Cliff tries to make them watch Old Yeller but they watch (a movie obviously based on) that instead?

MrDasher, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:45 (thirteen years ago)

Roger Moore directed GPK movie and as a result he never directed again

The Cheerfull Turtle (Latham Green), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

That movie is just horrible. The biggest problem is that GPK themselves, who look disgusting, hideous, and scary. I know that was the point of the cards, but the way they did it, it is just unbearable to look at. They should've done an animated special instead.

And of course you have bad rapping, a hallmark of 80s schlock.

That's why I wonder why hollywood is trying to make a movie out of it now -- if anything, kids movies are more cutesy and harmless than they were back then.

wtf had no ideas these were created by Art Spiegelman

Yeah, he also created Wacky Packages (for anyone old enough to remember those).

Is there a book out there of them somewhere?

Apparently, there will be soon! There's also We All Die Alone, which specifically features some of Mark Newgarden's contributions with lots of other great stuff he's done.

They should've done an animated special instead.

my mom took me when I was 7 and saw the one kid pissing himself and said "Jesus Christ", not realizing the whole movie would be this way
