Memory Loss

I was listening to Eminem on the radio earlier today and it struck me that I had, in fact, completely forgotten about the rapper Dr. Dre. Has anyone else failed to remember the old-time rap star for a number of months and, if so, should Mr Mathers remind us of other notaries about whom we have forgotten, for example the lovely Jane our of Rod, Jane and Freddy, or possibly Rock-And-Roll-Name-DJ-Payola-Dead-Sensation Alan Freed?

I had already forgotten about Eminem. Was he famous?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 22 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had an answer to this but I forgot what I meant to write...

Kodanshi, Saturday, 22 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Surely "Forgot about Dre" was written for Al?

When I first heard the song, I didn't realize forgetting about Dre was such a chronic problem in society.

Nicole, Saturday, 22 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Perhaps the "chronic" is part of the cause of the "forgetting"

Frickin' fancy writing.

No-one talks about M.C. Ren these days, or Yella for that matter.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Saturday, 22 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

An obvious but hilarious cartoon somebody had posted up on the college newspaper wall I started working at in late 1992 had MC Ren with a certain cat MCing like a motherfucker. The cartoon was titled, of course, "MC Ren and Stimpy."

I have a friend who while out drinking asks random people on the street "did you forget about Dre", he then proceeds to quote Dre lines in an Irish backward country accent and tell the people "well he's back he's back and he's brought another bitch with him called Xibit". You probably have to be there but its very funny.

Ronan, Saturday, 22 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ronan: I have this great mental picture of your friend hasslin' some little old lady with a floral dress, hunched over- "DID YOU FORGET ABOUT DRE?!"

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 23 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Joke which requires slightly too much pop culture knowledge to EVER work:

Me: Oh, yeah, that guy Anas Johnson who wrote 'Glorious', what about him then, ey?
Stooge: 'Anas' Johnson? Oh hahaha, don't you mean Andreas Johnson you fool, you musical halfwit?
Me: Ah, of course....
.....
...........I forgot about Dre.

And everyone falls about laughing. Or at least, that is the plan.

emil.y, Sunday, 23 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dr who?

DG, Sunday, 23 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

famous doctors and the dustbin of history:

rex morgan, m.d.

quincy

doctor octopus

dr. demento

doctor, doctor (bad mid 80s cbs tv show, AND pop song. brr.)

cliff huxtable

dr. giggles

the witchdoctor (of ooh ee. ooh. ah. ah. ding. dang. walla walla. bing bang fame.)

the re-animator.

perhaps em was referring to the OTHER dre...ed lover's obese sidekick.

jess, Sunday, 23 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Quincy? Feh. Quincy abides beyond time and plight: in fact, he's probably on TV as we speak. Who remembers the ep with the punk rockers? Everyone, that's who.

That green face gives me the fear.

What were we talking about again?

Will McKenzie, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't remember what the doctor told me.

Maybe he told me that I'd lost my memory.

Ally C, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mitch,

That's EXACTLY the way he does it. It's fucking hilarious. I must confess to joining him in doing it to people in Prague, many of whom had no idea what we were talking about. And if its someone english speaking they go "er no" so then he shouts back and starts lecturing them "ah come off it you did, you did, I can see it, you've forgotten all about Dre, he goes away for a few years and bam you forget that he started this gangsta shit, and this.....THIS is the motherfuckin thanks he gets.......etc etc" till they leave scared and amused. It makes me laugh anyway

Ronan, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Listen, you all are oon some sort of crack if you forgot about Dre. I mean, after all, after all these years, he's still D.R.E. So don't you forget it. Otherwise he'll remind you again.

Ally, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was chatting to the good Doctor the other day and I was shocked to learn that all he gets is hate mail all day saying Dre fell off. Can you believe that? I mean why? He's obviously just been in the lab with a pen and a pad trying to get his damn label off. Some of these haters would do well to remember what happened the last bitch who fucked with Dre Phd.

Ronan, Tuesday, 25 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eleven years pass...

Had a massive fight with an ex last night. Thing is, she entirely doesn't remember things she said/did during our relationship/subsequent friendship, and in fact thinks we met a full two years later than we actually did. This strikes me as really, really odd. Is it?

albvivertine, Tuesday, 25 December 2012 05:18 (thirteen years ago)

depends on whether the relationship was 2 years ago or 20 years ago.

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 25 December 2012 05:42 (thirteen years ago)

Closer to 10.

albvivertine, Tuesday, 25 December 2012 05:45 (thirteen years ago)

Am terrible with dates, my estimations are usually +/- 50%

ledge, Tuesday, 25 December 2012 11:51 (thirteen years ago)

i'd let it slide. why are you fighting with an ex, anyway? still talk regularly?

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 25 December 2012 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

twelve years pass...

Took me like five minutes to remember the word “default” today, naturally I’m like like, oh shit, Alzheimers and not the fact that I sleep like four hours a night

colonic interrogation (gyac), Monday, 8 December 2025 17:40 (three weeks ago)

If I didn't spend half my life trying to remember the exact right word for a particular situation, life would be a lot more... ahhh... ummm... amenable...

Now read it backwards. (dog latin), Monday, 8 December 2025 17:51 (three weeks ago)
