Impromptu road trip with my girlfriend: anyone in the US want to put us up for a night?

Me and the gf are thinking of a trip in early July. Dunno exactly where, prob gonna keep it within 6-800 mile radius what w/gas prices & all. From Austin that gets us (at the 800+ extremity) to one of the following: Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Omaha (?!), St. Louis, Memphis, and pretty much anywhere in Oklahoma/Kansas/Arkansas.

given the weather, you want to head for the mountains, xp

if you can get as far as Durango, Telluride, etc., the San Juans are recommended. plus, Mesa Verde.

memphis would be great. colorado springs is supposed to be pretty depressing, unless you are way, way into ugly suburbs in an otherwise beautiful state, and additionally are a fervent evangelical christian

so, um, yeah, fuck the rest and go to memphis...or else somewhere cool in colorado or nm, as suggested by others above

drive up to ruidoso and hang out with fellow texans, then keep going north through the mountains on back roads towards santa fe/taos/enchanted circle up to colorado on the road that goes to sand dunes nat'l park

Amtrak Tickets from the Dallas/Austin corridor to Chicago are way cheaper than gas (much less lodging+food), FWIW.

also i know i'm an asshole for saying ppl shouldn't worry about the weather but when you're 21 and on a fuck-it road trip w/ your boo there are so many better things to base your plans on.

Nowhere Hoos could go has shittier weather than Austin in the summer. (Except for Houston.)

That actually sounds really promising, only I just did the math w/my gas mileage & it seems like if gas prices stay in this region we'd save about $80 by driving?
