Just started watching this from S1 after catching a June Whitfield doc at the weekend. I never watched it at the time but I'm really enjoying it.
1)JS's writing is REALLY smart (script edited by Ruby Wax? Did she just add some zingers or was there more to it than that?). In the very first episode, you get the sense of this broken, haunted JS character, orbiting around a best friend who seems to launch everyone she encounters into debauched carelessness,2)Loved the frequent "Don't question me!"s that Patsy jabs at saffy to underline that Patsy knows that saffy is immune to her bacchanalian influence. 3)The physical comedy here is startlingly good. It's not just pratfalls (which both JS and JL do REALLY well) but the constant fiddling with props that Edina does when she's nervous, or this trademark sly sneer that patsy pulls on occasion,4)Julia Sawalha CANNOT act. She brings the whole pace down when she's onscreen and seemingly does he best to get the least number of laughs with the material she's been given, at least in the 3 episodes I've watched so far. And WTF is the dad doing there? Is he meant to have an american accent? Why is he giving stuff away? idgi, but I guess it'll be explained down the line.
Anyone else watch this at the time? I assume it goes downhill after a while...

Said actor's Canadian IIRC. Why can't his character be an ex-pat?
Second season I think my favorite on balance but I'd have to rewatch to confirm. (Oh darn.) The one where Eddy's dad dies = stellar.
I admit I always liked Julie S.'s performance; the character is supposed to be a prim and frustrated go-getter early on so it's not like she has to move goalposts much.
